Oceano/Pismo - one of the few places left on the entire coast of CA that you can still drive on. Might as well go for it while we still can!

My 4th year M.E. student goes to school nearby. AND - he still likes to do goofy things with his old man!

Last time we were there he was 11

Love the pic, Scott! Enjoying nature is a lot like making love to a gorgeous sexy woman. The anticipation is almost as good as the event itself! (note I said 'almost')

Sounds like an awesome day!!!! You have got to be proud parents with the paths your kids have taken. It’s called “good parenting”, me thinks.

Back from cold Florida on the 16th, off to the cold North Cascades for an overnight backpack trip on the 20th-21st.
108' of water has fallen out the dam hole thus far creating space for massive snow melt off lake flushing at my favorite playground.
Lakeside of Ross dam masquerading as the downside:

Destination in view, the trees in the near distance is an island from late April until late January when the draw down commences, now it's accessable on foot if one is silly enough to try:

40+ year old SVEA123 white gas stove still cranking away (one of the best gifts my big brother ever gave me) and some people droppings found on the bottom of the lake (2 umbrellas, fishing gear including a pole rigged and ready to fish with, a lexan fork plus the big find, a pentax digital camera that bailed off a Kayak on 6-21-17 according to the photographic evidence on the happy to be dry again SD card:
(I am attempting to locate the camera's owners and return the SD card with 300 plus images and a few vids)

Morning view prior to pack up and departure:

Went with a couple other retirees fending off rust by wandering about in the woods carrying 35 lbs (+or-) up and down mountain sides:

One great way to stay warm on a mid 30s night is a "Swedish/Scandehoovian fire torch" I witnessed an expert in construction process build and startup methods.
These are amazing and a very efficient use of downed trees, tons tons of heat and burned perfectly for 3 solid hours.
The expert (Karl) adding the 2 magical flaming cotton balls to get the show going.

These things breathe flames and sound like a locomotive for about the first half hour... pure entertainment.
Taking a breath:

Exhaling flames:

This is about hour 2.5, still keeping us plenty warm 5-6 feet away:

Our timing was perfect, half a minute after hiking back up to my Big Ass Truck (BAT for short) we saw raindrops on the windshield.
Another morning view from the now non-island:
(nothing like being able to gaze at 6,7 and 8K peaks from the relative comfort of a beautiful campsite)

The Awahnee (now officially known as the Majestic Yosemite Hotel) is such a cool place. What appears to be timber on the exterior is actually concrete stained to resemble wood. Except for the green shutters, there's no wood at all on the outside of the building. The builders didn't want the place to be totally destroyed by a fire.

Had the great room all to myself one quiet morning...

Many years ago I went to Pismo with friends and we rented quads, I put that on my 'how the heck am I still alive' list.

It is actually a few thousand mile south of Hawaii. Bora Bora in French Polynesia. The culture and terrain are very similar, so for whatever reason, that old Spike Jones song popped into my head. I hate it when they do that.

Storm damage.

Lots of surge (you can see the board on top of the ramp) that took the two Cypress down.

The duck blind survived

Yeah, it does kind of resemble it. Depending on where you were circling Bora Bora, it looked very different. Maybe there is an angle that could be even closer. Allegedly they inserted a photo backdrop of an island in Indonesia while they filmed the actual movie in Hawaii.

Strange how in the movie they flipped the scene.

It was a cold a rainy morning a Laguna Seca this past weekend. Fortunately there were enough of us working Start that I could get out of the rain once in a while.
