Not your average swapmeet
While we in the Rainforest wait for John Walker to announce the date of his annual swapmeet, I ventured to Everett WA, on the weekend for something a bit different....
A Vintage Audio Swapmeet. Lots and lots of good stuff to sift through, including tons of LP vinyl. Many of the vendors actually had amps, speakers and turntables set up and playing. Very cool! I bought a carton of 12, brand new, Western Electric 6L6's for $25 (!); a 60's 5 tube FM receiver by Eico ($50 and it works!); a new Shure VN35MR phono cartridge in an unopened box, at an incredible $15; 22 jazz and big band records, total $100. The best record found was a 1953 King Records release of saxophonist Earl Bostic. This record ("All His Hits") has the tune "Flamingo" which became a national hit. (Now largely forgotten, Bostic's style was a bridge between the swing-era, and modern bop.) The great, Coleman Hawkins was a big fan of Earl Bostic.

Why wait for John Walker's swap when you can go to the Quelle911.com swap next weekend? Get some of the Rainforest guys down here for the weekend. We may even caravan out to the historic races, which will be going on a mere 30 minutes away all weekend.
