Any rock climbers?
Real quick before the hottie stripper shows up....
Any rock climbers here? Did my first climb out at Joshua Tree last weekend. I LIKE IT!!! Seems like a great sport. Physically challenging, beautiful, simple. A little slow, but hey, I could learn to slow down. Plus, I could turn on lots of girls to this new activity Here I am at the summit of "Lazy Daze", a 5.7 climb.

Little late for Joshua Tree in May. I use to climb... well, a lot. Great sport, you won't feel like it's a slow sport when you do your first 5.11a, holly crap what a feeling. Of course taking a 20-30 ft ripper will get the juices flowing in more ways then one too. Be careful and have fun!

But I did run into a world wide group of rock climbers in the early'80s at Yosemite. I hung with them for a couple of weeks. Anyway there are climbers who travel the world to climb the best rocks in the world. So all I can offer is a thought to visit Yosemite and see if this campground that was a tent only area is still available. The area was nick named "walk in". I believe you'll get a super education hanging with these multi national climbers day and night.

Former professional mountaineering guide here. Traditional rock climbing was never my thing, I'm more of an alpine guy, but have done my fair share of climbing. A fun sport! I ended up retiring because:
1) I was about to graduate from college and enter the work force (and buy a Porsche, of course) and 2) Had a major climbing accident on Dente Blanche in the Alps of Switzerland (I believe the mt. itself is in France, we were evacuated to switzerland) which left me with a flayed chest, not a fun injury to have. essentially you get one when your chest is impacted so hard that the lower part of your rib cage is totally detached from the upper part, punctured my lung, blah blah. Now I'm a 24 year old with interesting stories and great scars to back them up. Still do some light duty stuff with friends, though.

Campfires were routine till at least 2am. Picture a metro NYC solo guy hanging out with between 10 and 20 international young rock climbing guys. and everybody eating a lot of rice and beans because this mostly college group is broke. It was great.

A little slow? Wait until you lead a climb, 20' above your last protection, arms pumped, legs jackhammering. Believe me, the fall will not be a little slow. . .
Tshabet, you probably got out just in time. There aren't too many old alpine climbers.

Richard:
Is this your new way of meeting women? I enjoyed climbing a bit thirty some years ago. But mostly did it (and was trained for) for rescues. At that time, I worked for the Park Service as a Ranger, so most of my time climbing was spent getting other people out of situations they had gotten themselves into.

Had fun in Sequoia/Kings Canyon 20+ years ago.
Last year saw some climbers on El Capitan in Yosemite and felt a little wistful that I didn't keep going with it. But I'm old enough that grabbing the cables on the back side of Half Dome is more my speed now. Do it while you're young!
