Saw the movie the other night. What types of buggies were they running. ? I heard a rumor some were 356'es with bodies cut off.
Anyone know?

From photo's and news articles I've seen they were mainly VW's, sand rails and an occaisional Meyers Manx. I never saw anything like a 356.

The book Helter Skelter they state that some 356's had the bodys cut off and they were converted to dune buggy's.Wonder if anyone on the board had one or knew of anyone who does.

I wonder if he is on line, so maybe we could ask him some questions.

Barris bought several of the cars back then. He intended to put them on the show circuit but was convinced by outside sources that it wouldn't be very well recieved by the general public. We eventually used the chassis to build the cars used in "Death Race 2000" with David Caradine. None of the cars he bought were 356's maybe because the VW's and sand rails had an existing Chassis or pan to build from. I know Barris is on-line but not sure if he responds personally to questions.
