who know aboutthe Olds Aurora?

I beleive it came out in '95 and was a RWD with a V8. Somewhere along the early years it went to V6 FWD. I'm considering getting one as I have always been facinated be the car. I want RWD V8. What years? Man, I've Googled the thing to death. No info on this change.

Oh, and if you have a black one you want to dump, let me know.

Oh man, Zeke, you really have been drinking Tony George's kool-aid, haven't you? You probably remember that the twIRL ran the Aurora engine for the first several years, uh, that is before they ran the Ford engines with the Chevy badge on them.

zeke, you should re-read your post prior to hitting send. nothing makes some members madder than poor grammer, spelling or hacked use of the english word. seems you forgot a space between a couple words in your subject.

Yeah, I hacked that one up a bit, eh? Need......coffee.

Richard, I was impressed by the Old Aurora IRL engine. No, it's not a Honda, but it was quite a piece. Sounded like a wounded dog, though, and I pointed that out to anyone that would listen (read: IRL marketing folks).

The car itself is a great 4 door performer. I used to have a '96 Impala Super Sport and, while I don't miss it, I need a sedan to go out to dinner with friends and get the groceries. Of the other 4 cars I have, they are all 2 seaters. I'm getting rid of a beater Cadillac and want something new for the parking lots of the world. Any other suggestions in the $5000-6000 range? (See, that's where it gets tough)

LOL on the spelling. I desreved (sic) it.

Milt,
No such thing as a RWD Aurora. The basic chassis was a downsized version of the Caddy STS. Tight inside, almost as small as an older Jag sedan. (of course I'm 6'2'' so I notice that sort of thing) A friend of mine has one & loves it. Takes it down to Florida every winter & has to work to behave himself on the interstates.
Seeing as how the Olds nameplate is no more, you should be able to find an 'orphan' around somewhere. There are always people who get turned off about the people who sold them their car not 'being in business' any more. I don't think GM will fold for a while yet

I don't think that is true. I believe the 95 is RWD as well as the 96.

these come through our shop ALOT.......i don't remember pulling any around into the garage that felt like rear drivers, we probably get 5-6 a month in for various things.
FYI...........if they have bose audio you need to gut the car to change anything (i.e. new radio/speakers/rewiring)

Damn! I just found a site that confirms that I'm wrong. There was never a RWD Aurora. Never mind, I don't want one now. I've got a '90 Cadillac with the FWD and I might push it over a cliff tonight.

I am really pissed that GM abandoned RWD. Maybe I'll buy a gawdawful Suburban. Why do I want RWD? Have you ever replaced a tranny on a FWD? End of thread for me.

Current North American RWD 4 door sedans: Crown Vic, Merc Marauder, new Chrysler 300 & Magnum, Caddy CTS & Lincoln LS The Lincoln has pretty much the same suspension as the S type Jag, early cars were available with either a 6 or an 8 with a 5 speed option on the 6. The Caddy is based (roughly) on a big Opel & has pretty well sorted out suspension. It has a 6 in the base car with either a 5 speed auto or 6? speed manual. Or you can go whole hog and get the CTS V spec with the Corvette drivetrain. The Chryslers have available V8s and Mercedes designed suspensions. The Crown Vic & Marauder are live rear axle vehicles with a Watts linkage on the later cars. Can't think of any others at the moment. How often do you end up changing a transmission anyway?? Good hunting.

Have faith Milt, GM is sorta coming around. The new Caddys are all rear drivers, Pontiac Solstice is a 20k rear drive Miata beater, and even though the new GTO looks like my wife's old '98 Monte Carlo, at least it smokes the right tires. Of course, would I buy any of them? Probably not. How about an older BMW or Audi?

I guess thats why a lot of people just get a 2WD Tahoe and live with the lousy milage. The only NA sedan in that list which fits your description would be the Crown Vic and I wouldn't ask my dog to live with the seats in those things. If Detroit would (or could) build sedans with the same competance they build trucks, a Toyota wouldn't be the best selling sedan in the US. My truck is a GMC, but my cars (with a few exceptions), have been VWs for over 20 years. Sorry I wasted your time by not noting the $5 - 6000 range.

How about an early Q45 with that wild 32V V-8. They're rear wheel drive and likely to be a lot more reliable than an Aurora.

As much as I like Porsches, I tend to buy American. The Q45 is a fine car, no doubt. I have a line on an '85 Chevy wagon with less than 50K on the clock. It's gold (yeeech), but a fine machine. Has a carb and gets poor mileage, but I just need it for a parking lot driver. the guy who owned it died recently and the grandson is driving it. It is sooooooooooooo not him. I could probably trade him a ricemobile, hah!

Do you know what a Mercury Marauder is? I didn't, but a friend of mine just bought one and he loves. He said that it is as fast as his 911SC in a straight line. A lot pricier than the Chev wagon though.

Or maybe see if you can get your hands on one of the last RWD SS Impalas (circa 1994- 1995) Might be on the top end of your range, but where else can you get a 5.7 L with lots of grins?
