Re Org and Lay Offs - I survived
Well I did it!!! I survived the Re Org and lay offs at my company, out of 23 people 8 of us still have jobs. I can finally sleep and eat again. They have been toying with us for over a year and today HR was here for the dreaded one on one meeting.
I can't tell you how happy I am! I have a job, the money is still rolling in and no projects will have to wait. ![]()

I just went through this too. I survived, but my group got gutted. Now I'm doing the same work load but with half the people. Typical corporate cost cutting move. You know, I don't feel as relieved as you. I feel a reprive has been granted but that the axe is still coming. I'm starting my own business, hopefully by fall (when I suspect the next round of cuts will come).
Good luck, Troy

Crap this is happening everywhere. My company just layed off 1/3 of the office staff 4 out of 12. That leaves 8 of us to run the company, hopefully not into the ground. This is not easy to deal with. I have only been working 10 months but I never realized how this stuff goes. They let people go that have been there for 8+ years. Oh well, I am off to work on the resume, just in case.

As far as taxes go, no problem. As long as I have some money to keep the Porsche running.

I thought so but certain industries are getting hit harder than others. Our sales force dropped from 6 to 1 in a matter of 3 months which caused other areas of the business to fail. Chain reaction I guess. I am hoping reorganization helps and allows for some more $$ for me so I can make some better life decisions.

My company is owned by a Finish bank. They weren't seeing the EBITA they wanted from NA so decided to get rid of value added services, or at least cut them severely. The result is a decrease in head count of 80 people across NA. Trouble is, no one in the management team has the balls to tell our customers that our philosophy on service has changes so please don't request us to do projects. The bozos that run this outfit seem unwilling to alienate any customer by saying no, we don't do that anymore, yet have cut the staff to do those projects. Its just moronic!

BD, all employers need the nut cutters! Congratulations! I have an interview with the HR dept. coming up soon, and I wonder if I might be let go. I think my employer wants me to get thrown in jail, actually. Taking a lever action 410 shotgun, and a huge knife into the state capitol gets alot of attention. Tourist ducking behind pillars, DPS stalking me, radioing we have the "subject", fire at will boys, being spouted back. I love making people nervous, and I'm harmless. I intend to say that anyone in the HR dept. is welcome to trade jobs with me for one day, and I should be aok. It's always good to keep the enforcement on their toes.

Hi Bill,
Sorry to hear but understand that its a good ting for you. I almost wish I'd been cut too. The work load is insane and still my manager is wondering why I'm not getting stuff done. Crud, he got a company car after the reorg and I got to do the work of two. Neat. Troy

I know to you guys it is a long time ago, but back in the early 70s the job market really sucked too. I had recently graduated and got a job as an engineer in the aerospace business. A project would be cancelled, and folks would go away bigtime. One I worked on we had a 4 acre engineering area. When I left there were 16 4 man cubicles still occupied. After knocking around and being out of work half the time, selling real estate part time, going out on "contract" jobs for the better part of three years during which I got my master's, I went to work for local government and also started a financial consultant firm on the side (finally went into that full time, sold out and "semi" retired to AZ). I was never happier than to have at least a regular paycheck coming in from the City and happy to leave the uncertainty of engineering behind, although I really enjoyed engineering work when there was any.........

Glad you made it through Troy. Bill, I always wished I could have collected unenjoyment to look for another job, but it never worked out that way. Good luck in you search!!!
I am pretty insulated from getting laid off because I work for a large municipal utility, the occasionally threaten us with privatization, but that's not going to happen. We are like the Borg, assimilating smaller utilities in our path. My wife is pretty safe as well because she is in the medical field. Look in the job section of the news paper, half of it is medical.

Moneyguy,
I, too am working on the multi-stream approach. I'm taking some "automotive care" training in August to learn a craft; wife is doing realestate and teaching teachers. I may have an opportunity with a former employer in Medford... There are options for me so that's good. Thanks Paul. I have a few friends that work either for the government or utilities and they have the same, secure feeling you do. After working in the chemistry field for over 15 years, I think I'm done. I've always had a job, but have never been able to live in one place for more than 4.5 years. Now with three kids who need stability and to be able to grow up with some friends, the time for moving around has ended. The next few months with be interesting for us! Thanks, Troy
