Madonna: What next after nudity?

Ahh, role model for America's youth. Hear Esther lay it on the line:

"I did spend, you know, at least a decade taking my clothes off and being photographed, saying bad words on TV, and, you know, that sort of thing," she told ABC's Cynthia McFadden. "I don't regret it, but it's just ... I mean everybody takes their clothes off now. And then what? You know? And -- and then what?"

And then what? How about a big turkey sandwich?

I am not opposed to good looking women wanting to take their clothes off!

You know, maybe instead of spending so much time you know, studing in Kabbalah, you know, maybe she should, you know, learn how to, you know, speak English properly, you know.

Not that I have anything against Kabbalah, or Madonna.

You know.

Ah yes, the deep thinkers of the entertainment world, who believe that their surfeit of leisure time provides them with unique insight into the world and the Human Condition; which wisdom of course they bestow upon we the unwashed from their overamped pulpits.

She's trash; the fundamental differences between Madonna and Courtney Love wouldn't fill a thimble. Esther, make your music and shut your (uppermost) c*ck hole, sparing us your cunning sophistication.

Though I'm all for naked broads. Just for the record.

This is not a thread about nudity per se.

Do you see the irony here?

Madonna pushed the boundaries of good taste and the prurient interest her entire career. Now the industry has moved beyond her, and while expressing a tinge of remorse, (why assert that you don't regret it if you don't?) she queries where to go next!

It's brilliant, made even more so in the context of her incapacity to articulate.

Oh, I get it -- but even a tangential reference to nude chicks is likely to derail an existential celebration of her considerable shortcomings.

Once she got nude, that was about it -- no more shock!, no more scandal!, no more perpetual escalation of prurience, etc. "OMG!! what is that sassy, irrepressable feminist pop icon going to DO NEXT?!? The world waits...."

Once she gave up the goodies she had nothing else to give, and as we know, men are inclined to tire of one woman (esp of that sort) and move on.

Buh-bye, Esther.

JP

Oh, yeah -- BARE NAKED HOT CHICKS ROCK! WoooOOOOoooo!!!

Madonna is confusing her continued visibility with relevance.

Techweenie -- well put. However, the same could (should?) be said about virtually every celebrity.

Slacker: I think some celebrities recognize their lack of significance. I live in a community full of them, and many are not the slightest bit obnoxious.

Good point. Those that are famous for their thing (film, music, whatever) w/o trying to leverage some kind of political/moral clout are probably a larger percentage than I would guess. Having to hear what Sting's opinions are on the IMF or Madonna opine on tax issues or Sarandon on just about any topic (e.g.) just frosts my muffins and I unfairly impugned celebs as a whole.

It's the case of a few of the self-righteous, loud-mouthed pinheads ruining the image of their group (at least to my eyes).

Kinda like lawyers.

At least the lawyer can claim he was an a-hole on behalf of his client.

What's Bono's excuse?

Somewhere along the way, mullet-haired U2 frontman Paul Hewson nee "Bono Vox" became "Bono," global activist for all manner of leftist causes, including Jubilee Research, an organization that believes that all third world debt should be cancelled.

No word yet as to whether Mr. Hewson has determined to put his money where his mouth is. In 2000, U2 earned at least $61.9 million. His personal worth is estimated at approximately #405mm. (That's $744 million USD to you and me).

Why is it OK for financial institutions to write off debt but not OK for Bono to give his records away for nothing? His live aid concert raised approximately $170 million. That's a drop in the bucket for him, though!

Now before you go having me involuntarily committed, I'm merely having fun: the fact that Bono earns so much has nothing to do with the realities of third world debt relief, nor would I ever advocate somebody giving away their money merely because they have a whole bunch. It's his, he earned it, he's entitled to it due to the Irish quartet's monopoly on talent.

But don't expect me to put him up for canonization anytime soon.

Madonna, now Ester, is a master of change. She has successfully keep hereself fresh for the past couple decades. I see this as nothing more but to reatract her early fans, those who have become parents and grown up, back to her music. It's all about the money. I don't believe her motives are anything less.

I read somewhere how someone was hoping Britney Spears' career would tank so she'd hurry up and pose nude.

Madonna kept on pressing the envelope, but once you show your stuff and do it on Natiohnal TV what is left.. how much farther can you go? The road she started down was finite.

Late this month my wife is dragging me to a Madonna concert. Yes, you heard (read) right. Gives me chills. The concession man better not run short of beer.

And I don't even WANT to know how much the tickets cost. ***SHUDDER***
