Say it ain't so....getting kicked out of R gruppe?

Just a matter of time before someone did this on a Porsche! Can't decide whether this ruins ferry's creation or puts you on the R hall of fame? Christ, maybe it puts you on the ban list and gets you kicked out of R if you did this on an early car?

You decide..

CAD designed kits in the $4,000 USD range. Cheap kits starting at $1400 USD. God knows how long to install:)

tobluforu 06-24-2004 08:09 AM

It's a boxster, so what the hell! I kind of like it. Pic. would be much better without coolio next to it.

pwd72s 06-24-2004 08:11 AM

HOOT! Well, if he parked near me, I wouldn't have to worry about him dinging my 1972's doors...looks a bit "Carol Doda" , doesn't it?

jpnovak 06-24-2004 08:12 AM

What no dubs on that car? I can jsut see that on an R-gruppe car. It might make it difficult to climb over the door bars on the cage.

2.7RACER 06-24-2004 08:13 AM

I'm waiting for the Gull Wing Kit.
P.T. Barnum was right.
Build it and they will buy it, UGH!

thrown_hammer 06-24-2004 08:18 AM

RGruppe? You got it all wrong dog. That is GruppeB Thru and Thru yo. Peace out y'all......:D

pwd72s 06-24-2004 08:21 AM

Agreed...it just screams to belong in gruppe B :D

limble 06-24-2004 08:33 AM

At least it will get driven. Unlike many other Boxster garage queens.

Slant930 06-24-2004 09:09 AM

Hamann did either a regular 996 or Turbo with the Lambo-style doors. I'll see if I can find the pics. Didn't look too bad although, its a little over the top.

EDIT, I guess they are not really Lambo-style, more like gull wing?

I think for the first time, I'd vote for GruppeB banning... 50% for the car, 50% for that ridiculous pose...

Slant930 06-24-2004 09:15 AM

moazam 06-24-2004 09:18 AM

Don't those doors make it very hard to get in and out of the car?

Nice photo of the guy with the "prison stance"... :/

thrown_hammer 06-24-2004 09:30 AM

I am standing like that right now......(in my best SB voice) Check me out.......seriously.....Check me out.....

}{arlequin 06-24-2004 09:33 AM

Would they even let him INTO R Gruppe? They are fairly exclusive and he IS watercooled.

dickster 06-24-2004 10:16 AM

looks great - but whats the point?

Yo hommies, what up, check out my fly ass lambo door kit I just had my posse install. Now see this here finger, well this used to be how big I was. Now... well $hit dawg im still that small... but these doors will surely help me mentally cope with it. I'll be getting my neon kit and wing in the mail soon, then im ready to start street racing. West Siiiiiiide!!

No seriously, in my opinion its not all that bad. I just couldn't pass up the chance to bash that doofus in the pic.

tobluforu 06-24-2004 11:04 AM

I likes da way da stribes in hibs shooos matchez the stribes on his shirt. Dat be coooooolio mo-fo.

KobaltBlau 06-24-2004 11:08 AM

I think it's quite odd the car has stock wheels and not some mondo spinnaz.

}{arlequin 06-24-2004 11:13 AM

Gettin in looks tricky. Could've been easier to get in if he welded them shut.

Jens 06-24-2004 11:14 AM

Ain't no thang. I actually got thrown *out* of prison for building this beauty. There's no justice. It handled like a DREEEM.   http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1088104490.jpg

He just blew 4k on the doors, thats why all the dough is missing for the wheel upgrade. Wanna bet he puts on 18"spinners. Those are another 1,000 USD ea!

So maybe we need to retitle the thread, how to waste $8,000 on a Porsche...

This is the one I meant to post- :D

It really is an early 911 too. Note the floor heat vent on the driver's side. Oh, the humanity!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/puke.gif

RPMClassic 06-24-2004 11:41 AM

Someone call a DR. I am dizzy and my chest hurts!:)

That pic is definately a Letterman Top 10 candidate.

Shawn, If you stand that way with that powder-blue car I will.... ...I repeat... I WILL throw sticks and small animals at you and call you a Nancy-Boy. :D :D

aigel 06-24-2004 11:50 AM

Back to the doors. Seriously, why do they open like that on a Lambo?

It sure looks like it makes it harder to get in and out on the honda and this boxter install. I also wonder how much force it takes to push it up there???

George

RPMClassic 06-24-2004 11:53 AM

Well there is a kit for my Dodge Ram truck too. That would be pretty funny to have a tow vehicle and a race car both set up with these lambo doors.

My understanding is that the door opens as normal, and then the hinge is spring loaded and can be "pushed up" or pulled down. It doesn't go from a shut position on the door striker immediately to the "sky high" mode in one swoop.

Zeke 06-24-2004 12:00 PM

Why?

Why do people do this stuff? Might as well put gullwings on a 356. Or has it been done?

}{arlequin 06-24-2004 12:14 PM

You know how it's a pain to change the hood shocks when they are toast and you are by yourself? (Holding up the hood w/ your head while using both hands for extraction purposes etc.

Imagine trying to change the struts in that assembly by yourself. Those doors can't be all that light hehe.

JeremyD 06-24-2004 12:42 PM

Yo dog - That's gruppe B strait up!

Jens 06-24-2004 01:28 PM

I like it. And speaking of hoods, I've got an engineering drawing worked up to raise the hood on it's hydraulically actuated centerfill cap and the have it spin and dance. Da freakin' bomb!!http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pint1.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/pub.gif http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/fles.gif

And I need more neon for the interior...http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/explode.gif

Adam 06-24-2004 02:57 PM

Yo, whatup!

When I first looked at that picture, I thought the guy was clutching a bucket of the Colonel's finest Kentucky Fried while squatting next to his car.

I actually don't mind that look on the Boxster.

Hey Jackie O...and R Boyz

Are you watching this thread Jackie...this is U babe.....

Jackie O must be thinkin, "O Jackie how can I make BB2 into such a beauty...."

Now I have to admit the R Gruppe is pretty stupid, but this is way beyond their style.

The R Gruppe is a club for old Yuppies, and as such are hard drivin Porsche men who love nothin better than livin on the edge and that for them is.....their cell phones are used to let their wives know what time they are going to get home, or the old lady calls them and says for them to stop at the market to get a loaf of bread and a quart of milk on the way home. The most outlandish thing an R Gruppe member does is stop at Starbucks on the way home and get a Caffinated Double Caffe Latte...the caffenine tends to keep them awake at night..which again the old lady doesn't mind since she doesn't have to put up with his snoring..... and Gawd forbid an R Gruppe have more than one beer and a imported one at that....he you know is having difficulity controling his bladder and if he goes beyond that limit it's Pampers time to help control that incontinence. Yawn I think I'll go back to sleep now all this talk is tiring me out...after all I gotta hit the Casino later after midnight....

Jens 06-24-2004 03:41 PM
