Do you believe in an accountable afterlife?

Without getting into detailed specifics on the nature of an "afterlife" in the poll, do you beleive in an accountable afterlife?

never used to, but after all the crap that I've been dealt over the last few years I started thinking "man! I must have really screwed people over in my last life to deserve this!" perhaps I should consider a pilgrimage to Lhasa

BlueSkyJaunte - well put. I share your sentiments. Belief in an afterlife is not necessary for morality either, it stems from the knowledge that what we do (or don't do) matters NOW.

Explaining tabs is like explaining cancer. "Why did it happen to me? What have I done to deserve this?"

No question.

Blue, Porscheophile, morality can partly be explained in terms of sociology, psychology and anthropology, but not entirely.

And besides morality, a bunch of other stuff points in that same direction. As I have explained before, it seems clear to me that there are some principles and connections that are too obvious to be seen by some. If someone is driving along looking for a signpost, they may read each signpost smaller than 20' wide or high, and miss the 50' billboard.

A diease strikes randomly, and to the victim, Tabbys actions may seem random, but they are not there is a reason as he has a will of his own.

Respecfully disagree w/ you Supes.

(snip)

I had a long response that was mostly tirade, but suffice to say that the MOST moral and decent people I have met and known were the least religious.

..."Do not ask for whom the bell tolls.........", Yes, and in the "here and now" to whom and what may one reply? Therefore, are the maximum consequences "here and now only" as ultimate? That is one of the reasons for the poll to begin with.

Blue has my vote. There is a distinct difference between spirituality and religion, though. Wouldn't it be a better world to live in, if we all just took responsibility and had some accountability for our present life. I really am starting to sound like my Dad in my old age.

Yes, it's called "having a conscience."
