Trust me nothing special. I used to work for Roush ... just catalog Brembo or Wilwood stuff - usually hacked/modified too. You can get used parts they don't want anymore at www.roushracing.com. Some are good deals, some you can find better deals and parts elsewhere.

Well, that was an exaggeration, but I remember reading an article on Winston Cup cars, and being surprised at how inexpensive they are. And how relatively low tech they are.
This was a couple years back, but as I recall, the entire car costs around $125,000 or so. Pretty cheap, it seems, in the world of top level professional auto racing. Seems like plenty of PCA and POC *club racers* spend a buck and a quarter on their rides. At the other end of the spectrum is an F1 car. If I recall, an F1 steering wheel costs $25,000. The tire warmers are high tech and cost around $40K. Engines are around a half a million. At least from what I remember reading. |

The $ is in the engine development and the rebuilding of the powertrain - lots of R&D and consumable spares. Aero development also costs quite a bit. The chassis w/ bodies are relatively cheap once complete. A 3-4yo roller can be bought between $5-10K depending on the age/condition and quantity you're buying.
