Trust me nothing special. I used to work for Roush ... just catalog Brembo or Wilwood stuff - usually hacked/modified too. You can get used parts they don't want anymore at www.roushracing.com. Some are good deals, some you can find better deals and parts elsewhere.

Can't you buy a whole Nascar car for not much more than that?

Thats the whole point, essentally unlimited budget, 800hp/3500# nothing exotic or special. Many P-cars have twice the brake power as those things.

I am amazed at what they get out of them.

I don't think so, maybe you are thinking of a Yugo?

Well, that was an exaggeration, but I remember reading an article on Winston Cup cars, and being surprised at how inexpensive they are. And how relatively low tech they are.

This was a couple years back, but as I recall, the entire car costs around $125,000 or so.

Pretty cheap, it seems, in the world of top level professional auto racing. Seems like plenty of PCA and POC *club racers* spend a buck and a quarter on their rides.

At the other end of the spectrum is an F1 car. If I recall, an F1 steering wheel costs $25,000. The tire warmers are high tech and cost around $40K. Engines are around a half a million. At least from what I remember reading.

The $ is in the engine development and the rebuilding of the powertrain - lots of R&D and consumable spares. Aero development also costs quite a bit. The chassis w/ bodies are relatively cheap once complete. A 3-4yo roller can be bought between $5-10K depending on the age/condition and quantity you're buying.
