Moses, can I get some advice?
Moses, I just want some general advice here. I believe I seperated a couple bones in my wrist. It was hurting from golf, and last night in softball I took a bg swing and felt the outside bones jest below the "knob" on the outside of my wrist separate. It is pretty painful and there is no way I can golf or what ever as the pain is too much when I use it. Is this one of those "take it easy and it'll slowely get better deals, or should I go in for a cotisone shot or something. I am 90% sure it is separted, I could really feel it "open up" if you will. Is there anything I can do to speed up the healing? Thanks in advance.

Bump for Moses and anyone else that may be able to chime in.
Anyone ever have this injury? How long was recovery? Did anything help your recovery? I have some BIG golf outings and tournaments coming up and would hate to miss them if I can help it. How about taping of the wrist? Is there any specific method of taping or a brace that might help? This sucks for my plans, and will try anything at this point. Thanks.

Hey Len: I've never heard of wrists separating. Shoulders, sure, but those get "popped" back in.
Jeez....I'd consider just going on to the hospital. Reading your description had me squirming.

I thought anything with a ligament can separate, who knows. It really felt like the joint "opened up". There is no redness and just a little puffiness in the area which is wierd, I would expect more. I probably should go to the doctor, but I am weird that way. Stupid I know. If I thought he would give me a shot of steroids or something in there I would definitelty go.

Get your butt to your primary care physician's office and bring along with you the current issue of National Review. Maybe if you're lucky there will be an attracive pharmaceutical detailing rep in the office that day. Moses already stuck his neck out here and would be entirely justified in not wishing to do so again. Seriously, have it looked at by a professional in your area, your health is nothing to procrastinate over.

I hear ya, I know better. As far as Moses, I wasn't asking for a diagnosis, I already managed that myself

Why is it that people take better care of their porsche than their health ?
I bet you most of us on this board spend more on P-car parts than on doctors. Bad... Aurel

here's what the doctor will tell you which is the same for any muscle/joint sprain--ibuprofen 800-1000mg a couple times a day and ice, immobilize it, and rest. tape it when you play to reduce the range of motion. I'm not a doctor but have had plenty of athletic injuries over the years and this is the basic treatment

Otherwise I got a nice BIG KNIFE that I got from a Jihady and we can cut that hand right off. Only thing is though once it's gone you won't be able to make the flag pole stand and salute anymore.

I do agree with Jon on the Ibuprofen. Seems that's all the rage
![]() Tabdula the magnificent, I appreciate your offer to dismember me, but I use that hand probably more than a married man should, so the loss would be unbearable.

![]() That said, treatment will be conservative. Nonsurgical. Steroids if acute and chronic. It may be a slight dislocation so you could try to relocate what you think is out of place. Wrap it in an Ace wrap, take some non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and rest it. Do some range-of-motion exercises while it heals...But don't exacerbate the problem...LET IT HEAL. My 2 cents. |

or it may be elephantitis...I would recommend a clitorectomy if so.

Let's give a big hand of THANKS to all the qualified medical advice given here today.....
Mull on your diagram of the hand and it's bones exactly where is the Clit? I don't see it labeled anywhere? In other words go to a real MD, and get his opinion the hand you save maybe your own. ...why mess around.

Sorry! Not dodging advice-giving, I've been in Yosemite with the family for two days. Beautiful.
Anyway, a wrist separation is a bit unusual, but ligament strains and tears are pretty common. The carpal and hamate bones break pretty easily. If it were me, I'd have an X-ray. A non-displaced fracture needs to be immobilized. A displaced fracture will need to be pinned. A ligament strain will get better with time, NSAIDs, ice and wrapping. A ligament tear will improve VERY slowly and might need to be fixed. If you have a dislocation, an X-ray will help make the diagnosis. If you have numbness in your fingers of loss of motion, get to the E.R. right away. Good luck!
