anyone know anything about 1950's Ford F-100's
My dad has finally got his dream property 5+ acres with a huge garage and he wants to start his own project car to wrench on.
He's found a 1955 Ford F-100 he's really interested in. Anyone know what to look for on these? Its pretty much all stock. Hasnt run for 15 years |

A longtime friend and longtime motorhead who always wanted to restore an early '50s Ford pickup, finally did just that a couple of years ago. It's a '53 with flathead V8. His research was EXTENSIVE. I know nothing, but he would have quite a bit of detailed knowledge. If you want, I can give your contact info to him.

All I know is that they're pretty cool. Should be a fun project.

I've owned a 53, 54, 55, and 2 56's. the main difference between the 53,54,and 55 is the front bumper from what I noticed. the 56 has the upright windshield posts and seems to be the most popular. a quick search can get you catalogs for just about any parts you might want. I never got around to restoring any of the trucks and sold them last year for $150 to get them out of my yard. I do have a friend that has a restored 55. if you have any questions, I can ask him if I can't answer.

My friend says to act fast. The old motorheads who really understand those vehicles, particularly the flathead engines, are ummmm.........past their prime. They're out there. And some of the information they have is not written anywhere. When those guys are gone, so goes our collective knowledge of these wonderful engines.
