A Court Appearance worthy of Los Angeles.
On the 911 thread, I told the story of getting stopped on Memorial Day weekend in the 944 on the 405 in West LA.
I was in uniform after landing at LAX, it was midnight 30, and I was in the 3# lane. I was doing the speed limit (more or less) and the left two lanes were doing the usual for midnight on a 5 lane wide LA freeway on a Friday night. Fast lane 90+ MPH, #2 lane 80+ MPH. I am passed by a couple of fast movers playing with each other, and from WAAAAy back, I see a rooftop red light bar light up. Man, there is never a cop when you need one, but daaaam, here's one, and they are actually gonna do something worthwhile. Wrong! She pulls in behind me, and lights me up with the spot. Gets on the PA as I turn on the signal, and start moving to the right shoulder, says, "Take the next offramp, turn right and park." I do as she says, shut down, open window, hands on wheel. She comes up says "License, Insurance, Reg." I do, she says "Where do you live?" .... Nevada, rural route; is why a POBox on my reg, license, insurance. She says, no way... where do you work? I reply, bewteen 35 and 45 thousand feet. She says, No, where do you report for work? I say Las Vegas, Raleigh, San Antonio, depends on the day of the week. She wants to know where my paycheck comes from. I show her. Philadelphia (Auto Direct deposit to my bank in Las Vegas). Long story short, she couldn't get me to say I had anything other than my boat in Kahleeefornia. She wants to know why I have a FastPass on my windsheild. I tell her for the New Jersey Turnpike. The Loop in Houston. The GW Bridge and the Holland Tunnel. And the 91 Expressway when I come see my boat from my house in Vegas. She is pissed. I ask why I was pulled over, like duh. She writes me for 3 MPH over the limit (68 in a 65). I say, seeya in court. This morning was my first appearance. I get there early. I get pulled out of line along with 10 others for a special 'test'. We are led to a row of 'booths', and I am in the first group. Looking at a TV screen (blue) and there is a camera looking at me. Few minutes goes by, and a judge appears, introduces himself. He reads my file and asks (with a smile) what did I do to piss off the CHP? I replied that I had the nerve to bring my red car to California with Nevada plates, and a Nevada drivers' license. He asked how fast I was going when she pulled me over. I said, "what it says... 68 or so." He laughs. Says every time he is on that fwy at that time of night, everyone is doing 90 or so. I agreed, was why I was way over in the #3 lane. He asked if I came over this morning to appear, I said yes. He says, "You've suffered enough on this one... I have THAT CHP officer in my court later this morning, I will reset her priorities". Thank you Mr. Red Car, drive carefully, case dismissed. Screen goes back to blue. A baliff hands me a form that says "Case Dismissed". Seeya. Baliff said the judges were tired of security threats. Only in California. |

Congratulations on your case being dismissed. Glad it is over for you, although I am sure the cost (both monetary and non) was expensive. It is these types of cases that waste taxpayer dollars. By the way, I loved your answer to the question of where you work.

You know, reading this it sounds like it was a smart a$$ answer, but I could not believe that was what she was interested in. I tried to ask about the guys in the fast lanes passing us while she had her red lights on, and she'd have nothing of that. She said I was who she pulled over, no one else.
While this was happening, I remembered an article in the LA Slimes about Kahleeforneeah trying to generate revenue by 'going after' scofflaws who live and work in CA and keep their cars registered out of state to avoid the fees $$$$. It was then it became obvious that she was on this agenda. Not saving lives, not chasing speeders, not arresting drunks on the freeways, not eating donuts. Generating revenue at midnight on a Friday. I would love to have been a fly on that judges chambers' wall. I left the 944 in Nevada and am in the MB420 this week, haha.

Nicely done. That was fun to read.
I wish the cops would pay as much attention to the wankers who don't use their turn signals as they do to the 68-in-a-65 criminals ![]()

Gee, I hope I have that judge.
I hopped on the 101, from the Cahuenga pass on-ramp going north, on a Sunday morning recently, on my Triumph 900. Still procrastinating from the "Gray" days I rebelled and didn't get tags, hence no plates, hence no insurance, accidentally no driver's license on my person...About a mile into my 5 mile trip to church (literally) at 9 a.m.ish, I get lit up...Now, I am in the slow lane on the 101 at 9 a.m....The mean speed is 80-90 mph...I AM IN THE SLOW LANE to stay alive. This guy pulls me over and gets me for everything under the sun...No license plate, no insurance, no proof of I.D. and as the cop told me 72 mph in a 55 zone...DAMN!!! Ticket reads 900+ dollars contingent on my proving proof of insurance, if I cannot it will be more ![]() I don't want to be a whiner...But 72 mph in the slow lane as I am being passed regularly, on a Sunday morning at 9ish?...I was as nice as pie to this guy...I mean sticky "yes sir, no sir" sweet, which makes it all that more painful. I am wondering if my "Bush Cheney" sticker on the back of my helmet perturbed him? (given the CHP union are big lib backers) |

![]() I know how you've admired them on my cars. Might at least help in the future, who knows? They're getting to be tough to get, between people's feelings about Bush and their ticket avoidance value, but I might be able to come through. ![]() |

What more should you expect when you are riding an unregistered vehicle on the streets. Not having a tag is a pretty good way to get any cops attention no matter what their political affilliation might be. Why am I not surprised that you are using your 'we conservatives are being oppressed by the liberals' excuse to cover for your own stupidity once again? |

Sounds like the left needs to get back on the anti grumpy pills. Come guys go get a happy meal and quit being so angry. Life is too short.

Good work, Sing -- it's always nice to see sanity handed down through the judicial system. Too bad about that poor officer's career, though. (smirk)
