What nifty things do you collect related to cars?

I've spent the afternoon cleaning out old clothes and other junk that builds up overtime and found this T-shirt:

My father had a 100-6 back then. He and I drove to meets a few times in the early 80's. At this event we were having breakfast at the hoteland my Dad saw this older gent sitting alone drinking some OJ. Dad gave me a marker and told me (age 11 at the time) to go over and politely ask the man for his autograph. We loved that car, gremlins and all.

This one is really neat:

My namesake came in third place in the catagory "unmodified MG" in the Queen Catharine Cup.

I have some great pictures of him at that event somewhere. They show the MG at speed with both rear's in the air! I believe this was when the racing was on the streets through the town, before the proper racetrack where they have the races today.

Post your collection here.

We have Donald Healey's autograph around here some where in a book?? My parents used take to take me to all of the Conclaves back in the late 80' early 90's. They were pretty fun! My parents still have 3 Healeys.

Does an autograph from Price Cobb qualify? Written in '91? On a honeycomb aluminum spoiler, taken from an IMSA Jaguar, bottom of the front end spoiler all scraped off?

I collect the chrome "script" from cars they no longer make like Studies, Hudsons, Packard or models that are defunct like Corvair. I carefully drill holes in the upper 2 x 4 shelf surround in my workshop that match the cast mounting stubs and epoxy them in place.

This makes every trip to the salvage lot an adventure. Never know what I might find.

What do I collect related to cars? Easy. Porsche parts. As many as I can find. No not alternators and things like that. More like trim pieces and other things that the average Porsche owner is too damn cheap to replace. Which of course leads to less production. The kind of parts that have a higher chance of carrying the dreaded "NLA" after the number. Things like the air guide that goes behind the alternator or ash tray retaining brackets. I can think of many more. With the current management at Porsche, anything is possible. When they can't talk people like myself into buying the current stuff they produce, there is always a chance that they will use pressure. So I'll stock up.

Ed - sounds like you've been monitoring 356 bits and bobs for prices...

I'm not into cars as much as I am specifically into my 356 - its more of a sentimental thing for me. So I've got all sorts of period magazines, etc. R&Ts from the 50s thru the 70s, a Dec '59 thru Dec' 69 collection of Panos, etc. I've also got the original service coupon book for my car (Dad bought it new) with only the first 1500 mile oil change removed, and a few more goodies like that.

I'm rapidly developing a really nice collection of car-related tools. Tools I never dreamed I'd own -- who ever needs the ever-obscure 41mm socket?

Don't forget about the die-cast cars. I also got tons of receipts - thankfully before I bought the car so it wasn't my money.

When I was a kid in the 60's I used to collect automotive decals. I would write to every advertiser in Hot Rod magazine and ask for a decal. Most would send them.

Wish I knew what happened to it.

I try to go to the big manufacturer's auto show each year. I grab one of the big plastic bags and fill it with a brochure from every car/car company that's there. When I get home I label it with the year and pack it away. It's fun to pull them out years later.
