Getting tired of beer, direct me

Don't get me wrong, I love beer It's just this little pub I go to only has domestic junk. I am a little weird in that I prefer draft beer over bottled, with cans of any flavor coming in a distant last. Getting off subject here, anyway, what is a good casual drink as a replacement? Normally I will go to a greyhound, and in the past was a fan of Yukon straight. But those days are behind me. The greyhounds are great, but now that I'm an old ass they give me heartburn in volume. What's a drunk to do? I can't quit, I've never been a quitter and I have no respect for them. Whiskey tends to be too sweet, and I've never enjoyed anything with water. I think I'm screwed, Miller draft it is Unless you guys have an idea that is, time is of the essence, I leave work in 100 minutes. Hurry!

How drunk do you want to get? Something relatively mild would be a Mike's Hard Lemonade or a Smirnoff Ice (Triple Black or Regular).

No no, I don't get plowed, I just like to keep socially fuzzy if you will. I cannot recall the last time I got hammered, not worth it! The citrus stuff tastes good, and I'll occassionally have a couple of the wifes. In fact I have always loved tart, citrussy(is that a word?) things, and I think that's why my heartburn is so bad. I never got heartburn till I was 28, then DAnmmmmmmmm all of a sudden I have it almost daily. So anyway I tend to avoid the acids.

Good idea Vash, but this is a pub/speakeasy. I doubt they are gonna have a method for chilling the vodka very well.

You're not helping Nostatic, we're down to 80 minutes! Time is of the essence, perhaps you don't understand the gravity of the situation?

Vodka Gimlet (only if they use fresh lime juice, no Rose's) on the rocks...I love Vodka drinks but hate martini glasses, always seems to get warm before I'm done and spill too much in a crowded bar...

Alternative is a dirty martini on the rocks, but not too dirty or you're looking for a glass of water for 3 days....

Ketel One on the rocks is an excellent candidate.

Just over a year ago I switched from beer to red wine beacuse the beer was hurtin my stomach somethin awful. Never had a problem since.

I do still indulge but in the brew, but "occasionally".

What exactly is a vodka gimlet? Is it just Vodka/lime juice? Sounds tempting, since the amount of lime juice I am sure is minimal.

Vodka/Lime juice, you got it, some use a sugared lime juice, some add some sugar to the mix, I prefer fresh lime juice, and ketel one, nicely shakken, on the rocks!

i gotta second the tanq&tonic. nice and refreshing. get it in a tall glass, and you are golden.

wine seems like a good idea too. but i tend to need food, and that would be another thread.

Whiskey tends to be too sweet
I would have to disagree with this statement.
You should try a good single malt from Islay, like Laphroaig.

I am 6'2" and 270lbs, so it takes a bit to put me down but yea I get your point.

"You should try a good single malt from Islay, like Laphroaig."
Me....
"Hey Merle, three fingers of Laphroaig."
Barkeep....
"What did you say about my wife?"

Like I said, little pub

I will give it a try next time i'm in the city though.

If you are going for all the alcohol, make sure you throw in a nice tri-tip steak to help.

If you get a nicely proportioned Sapphire-'n-Tonic (w/ lime) I swear it begins to taste like Sprite.... (the good version of sprite, where it's not sweet AND it has a kick)

Stoli Oranj(sic) on the rocks?
