Al Gore "Walking the Walk"
Interesting email I just received:
"House #1 A 20 room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house, all heated by gas. In one month this residence consumes more energy than the average American household does in a year. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2400. In natural gas alone, this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not situated in a Northern or Midwestern "snow belt" area. It's in the South. House #2 Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university. This house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can provide. The house is 4,000 square feet ( 4 bedrooms ) and is nestled on a high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat-pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F. ) heats the house in the winter and cools it in the summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes one-quarter the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Surrounding flowers and shrubs native to the area enable the property to blend into the surrounding rural landscape. HOUSE #1 is outside of Nashville, Tennessee; it is the abode of the "environmentalist" Al Gore. HOUSE #2 is on a ranch near Crawford, Texas; it is the residence the of the President of the United States, George W. Bush. An "inconvenient truth". " Beat you to it: http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp

Obviously you miss the point. It is not ones actions but one's thoughts that have merit. So sayeth the left.

I just found it amusing that someone so entrenched in the environmental movement would be so blatantly hypocritical. Al's deep concern for mother earth is so touching. I'm not saying that I am shocked by it.

Gore uses energy? Stop the presses!
http://www.snopes.com/politics/business/gorehome.asp For the less interested, I found this telling: "Other factors (such as the climate in th area where the home is located and its size) make the Gore home's engery usage comparable to that of other homes in the same area." Surprise surprise. I suppose one can't be a Christian if they don't sell all their possessions either.

"uses" eh?
I think it's more like "Selfrightous Finger-wag'n enviropolitico consumes conspicuously" . .. "uses" . .. heh heh. Ya put some effort into downplaying that one, did ya?

They should put this global warming stuff on the Comedy Channel. The latest cause: it's not your big fat SUV, it's coal mine fires in China & India. You're it!

I'm surprised (not) that you didn't copy and paste the sentence that says the gist of the article is true -- the Gore mansion does consume a lot more electricity than the typical American home. |

I always thought it amusing that, during 9 years living on Potrero Hill in San Francisco, I was the only one I ever saw using canvas bags for carrying groceries, instead of disposable "paper or plastic". And, as far as I could tell, I was the only Republican within miles of the place.

The sun? Now that's just crazy talk. How could a big ball of fire affect the climate on Mother Earth?

Did you mean $2400.00 annual cost, or monthly cost. I dont give a rats-a** about Al Bore, but that does'nt sound high for a house that big. Did I miss something? (wont be the first time)

It's monthly, hence the 20x the national average comment. I doubt the national annual average is $120.
