how do you guys handle trashtalking?
at the track or in my case an autoX. lets just say, i have some friends that are newbies at fast-ish driving like myself. and they think they know it all. personally, i like to think my instructors know more than me, and i listen more than i talk.
it wouldnt be bad if they didnt call me all the time to justify themselves on their times, (slower than mine ![]() cliff p.s. and these are friends!

well since they are friends tell them to F-off or eat S...
i would ignore it and point at the score board, as long as you times are close to your class winners you are good. its like anything else contested,, talk is cheap and excusses are cheaper. the only excuse i'd stand for is "well you have a 911 and its so much better than what i drive (insert- miata, 928, 914, 951, & etc) no wonder you are faster"

Vash - are you a member of PCA? If so, check your latest edition of "The Nugget" as there is an article regarding excuses at the race track. It is prety amusing - for example, tires are always worth 2 seconds - no matter what. So, if you have new tires, you loose 2 seconds because they are not scrubbed in. If they are old, you loose 2 seconds due to wear. If the other guy's tires are old, you still loose 2 seconds cause his are at their ultimate stickiness, etc.

yeh copy the article and hand it to the next guy that mouths off
you can pull it out and check off the right ones while he yaks - then hand it over when he asks what you are doing |

All jokes aside, just let them bleat!
All anyone remembers after a day or two is the results. Losers with excuses only make themselves look silly. Keep beating their times and laugh ![]()

I poached the images from Milu's computer, he has a huge databank of images of all sorts and I understand how he archives. Milu collects knives including switches, one he keeps in the office is a presntation F. Beltrame with damascus blade and mammoth ivory handle. I flick it when I'm alone in the office and in frustrated Emma Peel (the Avengers) mode

Frank B. builds the best. I have a collection of about 20 or so myself. I have an 11" damascus with honey horn bolsters that is my pride and joy. Something about the sound of a switch that is musical. you are situated pretty close to the switchblade capitol of the world, Maniago. I have a 13" that is like a folding sword. When youu hit the button you can hear the wind off the blade whipping through the air. So cool!

Check out the latest Frank B. swinguard! Now that is musical!
![]() If I had the money I would love a custom auto stilleto by Burn and some Coricamas from the 1950s. So many vices, so little time and money ![]()

Personally I'm a big fan of Benchmade knives. They've got some sweet autos.

Would it be too enlightened to just let them make their excuses and agree with them if it will makes them feel better?

Deep slow breathing can sometimes be necessary if you have the patience. You're not getting paid for your thoughts so you gotta go w/your flow imo.. and I guess treating them like 5yr olds is more peaceful till they leave if that's what's happening. The other twist is maybe the jerk does contribute to others and yourself. How about your in a situation where your picking 3 brains and the jerk is involved. Then it's group dynamics that has to be managed by you. Personally, it's much easier to deal w/ a jerk that's interested in an education than a jerk that's ranting.
