That was one of the most entertaining videos I'd ever seen. I had electic (still have one) from when I was a kid. I have a gas boat too that I finished, and never took on the water. I think that's next now that the Porsche is finished. These newer gas cars seem so much easier to use. Alot have pull cords and appear to require alot less support equipment.

Because of this thread, I am now the owner of a 911 Turbo...that would be a HPI Micro RS4 911 Turbo. I saw it on eBay, and just had to have it. Working nights is making me crazy, and buying something fun made me feel better.

I would have liked gas, but I live in the city. Crowded urban areas aren't the best place for loud fast-moving toys (aside from my "real" Porsche). I figure I can zip this thing around the lower level of my parking garage when I'm home, sleepless at 10AM.

thanks alot blogic...

Whoa! That makes my Tamiya 1/10 & 1/8 scale nitro cars look pretty basic...

That model is very, very cool, Ed!

Adam the 1/8 nitro cars are much faster ! This one has a topspeed of only 85 km/h. I also have a few 1/8 scale i raced with in competition and they are way faster but very expensive to drive them. This is for the laid back racers, but it really looks and drives like a real car thats what i like about this model. The pic shows how big these things are the one next to it is 1/8 model

I've noticed that most of the top-of-the-line electric chassis are 4 wheel drive. Is is the same w/ the gas powered ones too? The "big one" seems like it's rear wheel drive...

Why is the 1/8th more expensive to drive?

I will stick with my Zip Zaps. Anything larger takes too much of a chunk out of the P-car budget.....But Dang those look cool!

My 1/8 gas powered is 4 wheel drive and for that reason it eats tires. I used 3 sets per race and those are not cheap (50$ a pair) the engines i used on the 1/8 diden,t last more than about 5 hours so you needed a few for a season (400 $ each) The 1/5 scale is like you said a 2 wheel drive and the engine is a 22cc two stroke engine that runs on normal fuel with oil like a moped and will last a long time. You can,t compare them two i think the 1/8 class is the formula one of model racing the 1/5 is more like touringcar class and much cheaper to run.

Thanks. That's very interesting. I didn't know those engines have such a short life span. Maybe I'll start w/ electric too LOL... it just seems wrong to have a 911 or even F1 chassis and have 4 wheel drive...

Dave don,t be scared to get a fuel engine please the ones i used had a short lifespan because they were tuned to the max, they put out about 3.5 hp at 32.000 rpms. The tamiya engines will last a lot longer if you run them rich enough. Most people kill them by leaning them out to much.

On this page at the bottom you find some videos of the european 1/5 championship 2003 in France.

Guys, even in electric chassis Tamiya stuff with standard motors, RWD is a serious handful and you'll torch some treads in no time, but electric cars are a good way to start. Keep away from Nitro for as long as you can. Ed's right... it's like a narcotic. I'm not a fume-sniffer kind of guy, but I friggin' love the smell of these little nitro cars at WOT.

I also run several 4WD electric 1/10 scale cars and they will wreck a set of slicks or street tyres in only a few runs. Even with slicks, they're massively overpowered. I have an 11T motor, which will do donuts until the battery is flat with sticky compound rubber. I once removed the front drivebelt to try some RWD fun and the thing was totally uncontrollable. Couldn't even get moving without a donut or ten. :P

My 1/10 gas car has a modified motor and a 2-speed trans, so the bottom end is crazy and the top end just keeps on winding. Top speed? I dunno, maybe 60mph...

How do the disc brakes work? Is that a steel rod at the front that makes them work or is that a hydraulic line?

Adam 11 turns electric is grazy would make a nice dragracer i,m sure. Did you see the new Serpent line 1/10 models they are very very nice with 3 speed gearbox. There is something about that smell yes i think it,s the oil in the methanol that makes it smell nice like the aircooled smell of our beloved p cars.

Jesset indeed these are mechanical brakes i have a set hydraulics as well but don,t like them very much but thats personal i guess.

Mike here you go this is one with the body i race with it,s a crappy painted Mercedes, but they will look like crap anyway if you race them the color is to see them a bit better on the asphalt.
