Where is John Edwards?
There's virtually no buzz about him. I thought he'd be out bangin the drum.

here you go:
"Edwards Denounces New Overtime Rules" http://cnn.netscape.cnn.com/news/story.jsp?oldflok=FF-APO-1131&idq=/ff/story/0001%2F20040821%2F1132374831.htm&sc=1131&flok=NW_5-L3 this is a real issue for real Americans (hint hint). that extra overtime money helps pay a couple bills every month and it's being taken away from hard working Americans. again, shame on Bush, giving extra money to the rich through tax cuts while taking overtime hours away from people who actually need the money to make ends meet.... makes a lot of sense. ![]() Last edited by on-ramp; 08-21-2004 at 02:47 PM.. |

Yup, "trust us, we are the bush adminnistration's labor department."
We know that none of bush's departments would ever distort the facts or lie. ![]() |

I watched overtime erode in local government back east for years. I watched jobs "reclassified" and made "exempt". then folks working six days a week for five days pay.
Doc..Were't you recently bitterly complaining about certain work rules that affected you?

I was in fact complaining about a new requirement my current employer imposed. I have decided to vote with my feet and find different employment - a right granted to all Americans.

I am one of the few that went from exempt to earning overtime for any hours worked over 40.
Yeah

Gentlemen.. may I cut the pol bs for a brief visit?
The current labor laws have been very successful for many many reasons.. The laws were instituted when market economics were very different than today. Flexibility within mgt and labor founded in a flexible eco system allowed a win win overall since the 1930's. Significant movement since the 1970's leaned to a raising of "work", as it's roughly defined, productivity. The markets are now intertwined on an international scale. The concept of this "work" is becoming more defined by a new scale. If we can discount who will absorb the shocks of any change, then it can be stated that re-defined labor laws will allow a greater dynamic and successfully competitive US economic system overall. Naturally change will eventuall happen again in the far future.. This US system will continue to be the world's greatest because of it's flexibility. It will adapt.

I guess that begs the question why are job fleeing the country if our workers are the most productive in the world?
