Actually, I've considered painting my 911 black - flat black - when I finally convert it to a full-on track car.

I've had one black car. Looked soooo good right after a wash and wax and sooooo dirty the rest of the time.

bob, my truck before this one was a black chevy. no way! any bit of yard work would turn it into a mess. and once you fill the back up with tree trimmings, the branches would hang over and scratch away. they just seem more obvious on the black truck. my green truck looks kinda beat now, but i swear it looked new, for twice as long. (but i am kinda hard on pickups. i burned the black one's tranny towing)

I own a black on black Targa. Garage, car cover and weekly cleanings are a must. Based on this experience when I went with a truck, I went with white on grey. No garage, no car cover and bi-weekly washings.

Bob, consider that we are in a 10-year drought cycle. The chances of water rationing again are pretty strong. Now is not the time to be getting a vehicle that's going to demand a lot of water use.

(and yes, most of my 911s have been black -- it just somehow seems the *proper* color for them.)

Never again!

The only higher maintenance colour (maybe) is dark blue.

On day's like this the 3 hours spent washing and waxing make it all worth it (usually sunday) but by Tuesday I am hating every spec of dust on earth!

Got to take the good with the bad.

Two black 911s and a black VW golf - would try to avoid another black (or similar colour), but they do look toight when clean.

My A6 is metallic black, and shows every little speck of dirt, swirl mark and scratch. I would never buy another black car. My 911 is white, one of my least favorite car colors, but at least it is good for hiding dirt and scratches.

darn - looks like a black truck is not in the future - although i like your attitude sherman. you can never go wrong with silver but we have 3 silver vehicles. i can't bring myself to buy a white truck cause they instantly remind me of a company truck.
here's the part that i might get flamed for - i want a nissan frontier quad cab (duck and hide). i just need a light duty truck to carry those stupid things - 3 bar stools, bbq, patio furniture, base board, bathroom cabinets, etc. my wife and i made 2 trips to buy those 3 bar stools in the altima. i figure that is enough truck for what i need and too little truck for my friend's moving parties .
thanks guys.

I loved my black 911. I believe Porsche only painted the 911 colors like red, blue, etc.. when they ran out of black. That said I'd never, ever, get a black truck. The only worse combo would be a big black SUV. All the stories about black are true but the 911 is a breeze to wash. White or silver for a truck. Oh and I like the Frontier quad cab, though I would recommend a leather interior. They wear better than the cloth seats and are easy to clean. Good luck!

My toyota (pre-runner extra cab) has been just enough truck for everything I have ever needed to haul. I really like the quad cabs, but I'd rather have a 6' bed. Ive hauled a lot of stuff in my truck and Im really glad I dont have a bed shorter than 6'.
