Holy cow - Porsche Supercup???

We recently got a Tivo, and naturally the first thing I did was program in the words "WRC" along with "Porsche."

Tivo collected a Speedvision show covering the "Porsche Supercup," an all-996 race series that I honestly never heard of. I've probably got my head in the sand.

What a blast to watch! Balls-out racing, lots of contact, like NASCAR, but with curves and less tobacco-chewing.

So how long has this series been around, and what are the details behind the cars?

It's been around since the '92 964RS was developed. They used to broadcast on regular TV, ahhh progress

We just went from an antenna to DirecTV, so maybe that's why I'd never seen it before. I'm only 12 years behind the times....

Maybe if I'd seen it a few years ago I would not have judged the 996 so harshly.

Are there still two cup-car series?

(The Super Cup which preceeds F1 races, and the Carrera Cup, which preceeds German Touring Car races?)

There are numerous Cup series, German, French, Japanese. There originally was supposed to be a US series that was stillborn, though the cars are still around and very desireable.

SuperCup racing is just unreal.

Talk about gloves-off, tooth and nail, no holds barred, racing at the limit. THose guys give no quarter to each other at all. I'm sure the Porsche parts departments love it, but I hate to see all the damage thy can incur...

...and would still donate a non-critical body part to do it.
