Today the Repblican party is virtually in control of the USA government. They control the House, parity in the senate and the Presidency. Some might argue that they control the the Judiciary as well.

The Democratic Party is out of power and is desperate to return to the halls of power where they can control the shots. With the failure of the Centerist wing of the Democratic party in 2000 and 2002 the Ultra Liberal faction of the Party took over. Howard Dean never had a chanch being an outsider, it was virtually preordained that Kerry a Kennedy accolyte would be the nomimnie.

Out of this desperation to return to power there is a win at all cost mentality. Many in the ranks of the Democrats will do or say anything even to the detriment of the country to get elected. This is what Zell Miller alluded to in his speech.

The danger that the USA faces in the world is real. It is very possible that events can spiral out of control and bring our very way of life to an end. It is this willingness on the part of the Liberal Democrats to roll the dice for political gain in the face of this danger that is reprehensible in my view. This again is what Zell Miller alluded to in his speech.

To be sure Bush and his administration are not perfect and have made mistakes. What administration under pressure hasn't made them. The Greatest President the USA has ever had, was called a Baboon by members of his own cabinet, it literally took him 3 years of grievious defeats and poor generalship before he found a winning general. That man...President was Abraham Lincoln.

The villians here are not the Repblicans or the Democrats for we all have a stake in the well being of the country. We have different views as to how we are to achieve and even what the well being of the country should be. What we have to realize is that the real villian is our enemy who is willingly to die for his cause which is to bring the USA down. The divisivness that our political system is experiencing is providing our enemies with an opportunity to do so.

As passionate as Zell was in what he said last night, I'm thinking that getting an invite to another Kennedy cocktail party is the least of his concerns.

Zell would rather be spending his time with his family, anyway! :D

Georgia Sen. Zell Miller (news, bio, voting record), keynote speaker at this year's Republican National Convention, also was the keynote speaker at the 1992 Democratic National Convention. Here's a look at some of the remarks he made 12 years ago and his statements Wednesday.



1992: "We can't all be born rich and handsome and lucky, and that's why we have a Democratic Party. My family would still be isolated and destitute if we had not had FDR's Democratic brand of government."

2004: "In (the Democrats') warped way of thinking, America is the problem, not the solution. They don't believe there is any real danger in the world except that which America brings upon itself through our clumsy and misguided foreign policy. It is not their patriotism — it is their judgment that has been so sorely lacking."

1992: "I made it because Franklin Delano Roosevelt energized this nation. I made it because Harry Truman fought for working families like mine. I made it because John Kennedy's rising tide lifted even our tiny boat. I made it because Lyndon Johnson showed America that people who were born poor didn't have to die poor. And I made it because a man with whom I served in the Georgia Senate — a man named Jimmy Carter — brought honesty and decency and integrity to public service."

2004: Democrats "claimed Carter's pacifism would lead to peace. They were wrong. They claimed Reagan's defense buildup would lead to war. They were wrong. The political divisiveness is intended to draw attention away from the thievery and malfeasance. If we're occupied with whether or not gay guys should get married, we miss the little detail of the $8B Halliburton stole in Iraq (if you take government money, disburse it and can't account for it, that's theft)

That doesn't appear to be in Tabs's own words. Can someone find from where he may have lifted that?

Chronolgy for all who don't have a calendar - 1992 is before 9/11/2001. 2004 is after 9/11/2004.

Things change, people change. To give you an example, I actually voted for the pacifist, "never-met-a-dictator-he-didn't- like" Jimmy Carter!

I wont make that mistake again. It's pretty obvious that Zell Miller feels his party no longer has the stomach to confront terrorists.

Zell Miller totally freaked out last night on Chris Matthews, it was nuts. He was grilled a few minutes earlier on CNN and got on Hardball with a chip on his shoulder. Chris asked him a pretty straight-up question and he got so pissed he challenged Chris to a duel !!!

Well the "then and now" AP piece seems to only look at economic issues in the past while comparing Zell's statements regarding security in the present. The article might be a poor attempt at spin doctor damage control by the DNC. Zell put a smack down on them last night and they know it.

Zell on Bush during last night's speech: "...he's the same man on Saturday night as he is on Sunday morning..."

Is that a plug for gay marriage? :D

The partisan lib's want to destroy Zel (&tabs);).. .because what he said cannot be argued. I think that many of us here have been seeing & saying what Zel spoke of. (ie. Burnin' oil recently wrote:I have this mental image of (bush bashers) urinating on everything around them, even their own food . . .)

That pretty much sums-up what he was telling us.

oh, that and bringing to light the type of politician John Kerry is. . . .He placed John Kerry as comparable to Ted Kennedy! :D That was brillant! OMG I was laughing hard!

oh, kach22i, I suposse you didn't listen to his speech. Zel was very clear that 9/11/01 was a pivitol event in the politics as usual.

Note he also referenced that the R candidate didn't take potshots at the sitting POTUS during the 1940 election (FDR/Wallace v Wilke/McNary). Zell also pointed out that even then, there was a notion of statesmanship rather than the current "win at any cost" liberalism that has pervaded the modern DNC.

Makes me wonder why the DNC couldn't come up with anyone else. Lieberman, for example, would have at least kept the level of embarassment down, for the DNC.

Ofcoruse it can be argued, but I wouldn't ask Zell to do it, he might beat you up or shoot you or something. Blitzer and Matthews tried to get some decent explanations out of him last night and the guy erupted! Dem or not, the guy is crazy.

zell sure did not stick to the tolerence theme the repubs have tried to paint. speaking of paint, notice how the cameras are always on people of color in the crowd? what do you supose they are getting at there? hmmm??

Widebody has a piece of it...this election is about who gets to run the "thievery"...Democrats or Repblican...When Johnson was President , NASA was put in Houston. Under Reagan and his deffense build up the defense industry in CA flourished. What is new, he who is in power gets to spread the wealth.
