end of the innocence
Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath a deep blue sky Didn't have a care in the world With mommy and daddy standin' by But "happily ever after" fails And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales The lawyers dwell on small details Since daddy had to fly But I know a place where we can go That's still untouched by men We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by And the tall grass wave in the wind You can lay your head back on the ground And let your hair fall all around me Offer up your best defense But this is the end This is the end of the innocence O' beautiful, for spacious skies But now those skies are threatening They're beating plowshares into swords For this tired old man that we elected king Armchair warriors often fail And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales The lawyers clean up all details Since daddy had to lie But I know a place where we can go And wash away this sin We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by And the tall grass wave in the wind Just lay your head back on the ground And let your hair spill all around me Offer up your best defense But this is the end This is the end of the innocence Who knows how long this will last Now we've come so far, so fast But, somewhere back there in the dust That same small town in each of us I need to remember this So baby give me just one kiss And let me take a long last look Before we say goodbye Just lay your head back on the ground And let your hair fall all around me Offer up your best defense But this is the end This is the end of the innocence |

its always a good/bad thing when KLOS does their "Rock A-Z". I end up hearing lots of tunes that strike a chord (pun intended). Heard that one today. I was especiallly hit by the second verse, and the beating ploughshares into swords bit. Necessary? Likely. Sad? To be sure.
Boys of Summer always gets to me too: Out on the road today I saw a deadhead sticker on a cadillac A little voice inside my head said, don’t look back. you can never look back... |

The Eagles are OK, but I really love Steely Dan lyrics, I always hear something I never heard before every time I listen to their songs... Anyone else like Steely Dan for their lyrics?

I'm a man without a soul...Honey
Who lost it while parading it, in a town full of thieves Y'see I didn't want to be with any people I know. But God knows I din't want be alone................ .....When I ran into the cure for my ills Don't tell me what you name is I want your body not your mind I want a feeling worth paying for before I say goodbye But as I was talking I couldn't look her in the eyes I just kept wondering How many men unleashed their fustrations between her thighs Well my adrenalin was curdling like cream, as I was being led by the hand. Through the sound of sirens and the distant noise of a drunken jazz band through the stench of disinfectant That infected my head through the darkness of a corridor and into a strangers bed....... ......She was lying on her back with her lips parted Squealing like astuffed pig I was going through the motions faking the emotions I was wriggling around like a lizard in a tin I was trying so hard to be myself / I was turning into somebody else................ Heh.Heh mighty uplifting....

"Turn up the Eagles, the neighbors are listening..."
SD rules. Always my first "go to" guys for musical inspiration. Too many great lyrics to count. Fitting with the theme: I know this super highway This bright familiar sun I guess that I'm the lucky one Who wrote that tired sea song Set on this peaceful shore You think you've heard this one before Well the danger on the rocks is surely past Still I remain tied to the mast Could it be that I have found my home at last Home at last She serves the smooth retsina She keeps me safe and warm It's just the calm before the storm Call in my reservation So long hey thanks my friend I guess I'll try my luck again Well the danger on the rocks is surely past Still I remain tied to the mast Could it be that I have found my home at last Home at last |

ORE
The rising moon faces the sickening sun
as the lights in the towers go on one by one A big shot, overlooking this black iron skyline Surrounded by the symbols of prosperity Sits back in his new leather chair ripped off the back of some unfortunate beast I'm smiling thorough my teeth Anybody can be a millionaire so everybodys gotta try but by the laws of this human jungle only the heartless willl survive And down there for the grace of God Go I The smoke and the steam and the brokendown dreams The hope and hunger, fustration and anger The little drunken lives driven through the traffic lights And away from who they are But I've been thinking of you In this great city of of great solitude Crossin the central reservation of my imagination Searchin for the world ...I left behind A shadow hunting shadows..of childhood life It's all I want...and all I miss but how can I return to a place that don't exist Too Mombasa to Miami, Beirut to Bangladesh I've flown around the world standing on the wing of a jet Tryin to salvage my emotions from the bottom of the oceans Y'see I sold my soul to pay for my dinner My stomach grew fatter, but my heart grew thinner I ain't foolin I'm fallin Iwasn't wicked just weak I ain't lyin, I'm dyin, crippled by deceit................... ![]()

BUSHLEAGUER Pearl Jam
How does he do it? how do they do it? uncanny and immutable.
This is such a happening tailpipe of a party. Like sugar, the guests are so refined, (look like melting mice) A confidence man, but why so beleagued? He’s not a leader, he’s a texas leaguer Swinging for the fence, got lucky with a strike Drilling for fear, makes the job simple Born on third, thinks he got a triple Blackout weaves it’s way through the cities I remember when you sang That song about today Now it’s tomorrow and Everything has changed A think tank of aloof multiplication A nicotine wish and a colossus decanter Retrenchment and foolishness What’s the ruckus? The haves have not a clue The immenseness of suffering And the odd negotiation, a rarity With onionskin plausibility of life, And a keyboard reaffirmation Blackout weaves it’s way through the cities I remember when you sang That song about today Now it’s tomorrow and Everything has changed Sorry, couldn't resist.

Harry got up
Dressed all in black Went down to the station And he never came back They found his clothing Scattered somewhere down the track And he won't be down on Wall Street in the morning He had a home The love of a girl But men get lost sometimes As years unfold One day he crossed some line And he was too much in this world But I guess it doesn't matter anymore In a New York Minute Everything can change In a New York Minute Things can get pretty strange In a New York Minute Everything can change In a New York Minute Lying here in the darkness I hear the sirens wail Somebody going to emergency Somebody's going to jail If you find somebody to love in this world You better hand on tooth and nail The wolf is always at the door In a New York Minute Everything can change In a New York Minute Things can get a little strange In a New York Minute Everything can change In a New York Minute And in these days When darkness falls early And people rush home To the ones they love You better take a fool's advice And tak care of your own One day they're here; Next day they're gone I pulled my coat around my shoulders And took a walk down through the park The leaves were falling around me The groaning city in the gathering dark On some solitary rock A desperate lover left his mark, "Baby, I've changed. Please come back." What the head makes cloudy The heart makes very clear The days were so much brighter In the time when she was here But I know there's somebody somewhere Make these dark clouds disappear Until that day, I have to believe I believe, I believe In a New York Minute Everything can change In a New York Minute You can get out of the rain In a New York Minute Everything can change In a New York Minute |

U walk into the room
with a pencil in your hand U see somebody naked And U say, "Who is that man?" U try so very hard But U don't understand What you'll say when you get home And U know something is happening here But U don't know what it is Do U Mr Jones You raise up your head and U ask, "Is this where it is?" And somebody point sto U and they say, "It's his." And U say, "Whats mine?" And then somebody else says, "Well, what is?" And U say, "Oh my God Am I here all alone?" And you know something is happening here But U don't know what it is Do U MR Jones U pay for your ticket And U go watch the geek Who immediately walks up to U When he hears U speak And he asks U how it feels to be such a freak And U say, "Impossible" As he hands U a bone And U know somethings happening here But U don't know what it is do U, Mr Jones U have many contacts Among the Lumberjacks Who get U the facts When someone attacks your imagination But nobody has any respect Anyway they allready expect U To give a check To tax-deductible charity orgainizations U've been with the professors And they all like your looks with great lawyers you have Discussed the lepers and crooks U've read all of F Scott Fitzgerald's books Your very well read It's well known And U know something is happening here But U don't know what it is do U, Mr Jones The sword swallower comes up to U and then he kneels He crosses himself And then he clicks his high heels without further notice He asks U how it feels And he says, "Here is your throat back Thanks for the loan" And U know something is happening here But U don't know what it is Do U, Mr Jones U see this one eyed midget And he's shouting the word, "Now" U say, "whats the matter?" And he says, "How?" And U say, "what does this mean?" And he screams back, "Your a cow." Give me some milk Or else go home And U know somethings happening here But U don't know what it is Do U, Mr Jones Well, U walk into a room Like a camel and then U frown Your eyes in your pocket And your head on the ground There ought to be a law Against U comin around U should be made to wear earphones And U know something is happening here But U don't know what it is Do you, Mr. Jones

Well we come with what was on our backs
Yeah, when the leaves had died and all turned black Back when the wind was cold and blew them 'round When we laid our blankets on the ground Yeah and I woke up feelin' hungry Lookin' straight into the sun, and left a cold night on the ground Like a dog on the run I fell overboard and washed up on the beach Yes, let waves and sand roll over me I was helped to be home of a young bleached blonde Who said honey I discovered early in life there's ways of getting Anything I want, some of us are different It's just something in our blood, there's no need for explanations We're just dogs on the run The room was painted blue and grey All my meals were served on a silver tray Oh she would laugh, and light my cigarettes She said honey ain't it funny how a crowd gathers around Anyone living life without a net? And how they'll beg you for the answer But it won't ever be enough, there's no way you could ever tell 'em It's just dogs on the run

Everybody knows the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed Everybody knows the war is over Everybody knows the good guys lost Everybody knows the fight was fixed The poor stay poor and the rich get rich Thats how it goes, everybody knows Everybody knows the boat is leaking Everybody knows the captain lied Everybody got this broken feeling Like their father or their dog just died Everybody talking into their pocket Everybody wants a box of choclates And a long stem rose. everybody knows Everybody knows. Eveybody knows Thats how things goes everybody knows Everybody knows that U love me baby Everybody knows that U really do Everybody knows that you've been faithfull, give or take a night or two Everybody knows you've been discreet But there were so many people you just had to meet without your cloths, and everybody knows And everybody knows it's now or never Everybody knows thats me or U And eveybody knows that you live forever when you've done a line or 2 Everybody knows the deal is rotten Old Black Joe is still picking cotton For your ribbons and bows, everybody knows Everybody knows thats how things goes Everybody knows the plague is coming Everybody knows it's moving fast Everybody knows the naked man and woman Are just a shining artifact of the past everybody knows the scene is dead But theres gona be a meter on your bed That will disclose what eveybody knows And everybody knows that your in trouble Everybody knows what you've been through From the bloody cross on top of Calvary To the beach at malibu Everybody knows it's coming apart Take one last look at this sacred hart Before it blows and eveybody knows Everybody knows thats how things goes...

I recently heard an old favorite on the radio . . .
Two boys on a playground Tryin' to push each other down See the crowd gather 'round Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd Black gold in a white plight Won't you fill up the tank, let's go for a ride I don't care 'bout no wheelchair I've got so much left to do with my life Moving backwards through time Never learn, never mind That side's yours, this side's mine Brother you ain't my kind You're a black soldier, white fight Won't you fill up the tank, let's go for a ride Sure like to feel some pride But this place just makes me feel sad inside Mother, do you know where your kids are tonight? Keeps the kids off the streets Gives 'em something to do, something to eat This spot was a playground This flat land used to be a town Black gold in a white plight Won't you fill up the tank, let's go for a ride Sure like to feel some pride But this place just makes me feel sad inside Black gold in a white plight Won't you fill up the tank, let's go for a ride I don't care 'bout no wheelchair I've got so much left to do with my life |
