Any CAD people using PTC Pro-Engineer Wildfire ??

Hey,
I just got this stuff made by PTC.. It blows autoCad away !!

Wondering if anyone uses it. I'm looking for engines for Harleys done in it to add into a project.

Anyway, here's a pic that someone made with it. I'd like to see the drawings for it..

Wildfire is great step forward compared to previous version but I still find little hard to use.

I prefere Solidworks for "smaller" projects...

I completely agree with beep; except for the part about prefering Solidworks for "smaller" projects...

I prefer to use Solidworks for all other projects...
. . the few things that Pro/e can do (automatically) which SW needs to be forced, are so seldom used that they're hardly a plus. Where as, the functionallity SW has over Pro . . .stuff the user uses often. (I've only come across one guy who doesn't prefer SW over Pro.)

Good news; both programs functionallities are converging with each other.

Autocad is for the 2-D world.

another one here for Solidworks. been a user for over 10 years, started with Pro/e then converted over, saw the light.
Parametric technology is going bankrupt anyway, i think.

I believe that Dassault bought Solidworks Corp, in large part for the development of Catia V5.

I have yet to use Catia V5 . . . when's the tour, Marc?

I had been using ProE since '90 ... they've gotten a little ahead of themselves these days. I find Solidworks to be a better program today for a variety of reasons and have been using it since it came out.

PTC sales sucks a$$ ... they had many many years to make it in the auto industry, but they just blew it ... pompous and overbearing doesn't go over well in Detroit. They're last big push was with Saturn - they developed an automatic parametric chassis development module that laid the groundwork for the Vue ... I don't think it really went anywhere after that - again due to poor sales.

CATIA V5 does look very good and promising, but it doesn't look like it will happen anytime around here - DaimlerChrylser has no immediate plans for it, but they are benchmarking it (and it blows V4 away).

Don - I had a V-twin ProE engine (and chassis) design when the brand name Indian was being revived back in '98 ... a totally new 1500cc powerplant on a way cool prototype Indian Chief. Unfortunatly, the courts killed our customers claim because the Canadian Motorcycle Company showed up with a handful of running S&S engine/aftermarket Harley chassis/Indian dress bikes - they won the "race" and became what Indian Motorcycle Co is today. I believe they are now just getting around to developing their own unique engine. Our bike made a couple cycle mag photo shoots prior to the ruling and that was the only way the public ever got to see it ... kinda sucked at the time to stop that one.

I've just been going through the training stuff and watching the videos on the PTC site.

I'm going to try to find a bootleg of SolidWorks to try it out as well.

I have always wanted to redo the dash in the 944 and put in a Car PC with touchscreen. I think I should be more than able to design it in Wildfire..

Oh, by the way, I have never done any sort of drafting / drawing so this is a new experience for me. Maybe I can eventually get a job doing it.
