Yanni and Boy George are very talented in their own musical style....

one more vote for Britney.

I have to go with Michael Jackson. Anyone so obsessed with little boys needs to be erased.

I can't believe someone would want to eliminate the Beatles. My vote would be the one band that brought about the whole rap thing. I don't know which one it is but Run DMC comes to mind. Or maybe it was the Sugarhill Gang.

I don't think the Beatles are overrated. I think they just had so many great songs that you can never remember them. Sometimes a hear an underplayed Beatles tune, and I'm reminded that it's pure genius.

Too many of their so-so songs were bigger hits than their brilliant ones. Ain't that the way it goes?

Night Ranger should be shot and pissed on.

No wait. The Village People.

JavaBrewer 10-09-2004 07:17 PM

Listening to the Beatles is like listening to the music playing in Mexican restaraunts, it all sounds the same. I could say the same thing about Rush, though I do actually like a couple of their songs. Sorry to piss in your cereal but I have to agree that the Beatles were just hyped way too much. They could have crapped in a bag and it would have gone gold.

Forgot about that Rico Suave dude, really really bad.

speeder 10-09-2004 07:23 PM

There are some stupid MF'ers on this board.

pwd72s 10-09-2004 07:30 PM

Their are???

speeder 10-09-2004 07:40 PM

Guilty as charged. :D

CarreraS2 10-09-2004 07:45 PM

Where? Over their!

Anyways, I don't really care much for the Beatles, but to say all their (there?) music sounds the same is, well, insane! I think it is hard to imagine a band whose body of music is so diverse. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" to "Revolution?"

Bubble gum, to psychedelia, and everything in between?

Hard to say they are overrated - didn't they basically invent a genre (and industry), and remain on the cutting edge of rock music for decades?

That being said, again, I'm not a Beatles fan! Was a little before my time, I guess.

Kansas.

campbellcj 10-09-2004 09:05 PM

I can't believe some of the above posts...I mean the Dead for instance are the most popular touring band ever and invented the "jam" genre. Although they had their moments of greatness, nobody ever said they were the world's greatest musicians...what they were (are?) is a ****load of fun.

The name that comes to mind for me is Brittany Spears. No matter how many times I look ( :o ) all I see is barely mediocre talent and blatant, raw commercialism, and a poor role model to boot. Skanky.

dd74 10-09-2004 09:15 PM

Well, Brittany was a former Mouseketeer. What's that tell you?

I know all you guys just love Jewel. :D

Overpaid Slacker 10-09-2004 09:18 PM

campbellcj -- how dare you speak of my future ex-wife in those terms?

J/k. I'd bank Christina Aguilera bareback before I touched Ms. Spears.

Tech -- LMAO.

Upon further consideration, I'll revise my former vote just to cover Cobain. I don't want to lose Dave Grohl's stuff.

Yeah, if we could just eliminate Elvis, Bob Dylan and the Beatles from history, music would be better off. It would have evolved from Perry Como and the Andrews Sisters, (or whoever the big acts of 1954 were), and, and.....(gurgle, snort)....

(Hopefully there are not any typos in the above, but you can get my general drift I trust). ;)

hardflex 10-10-2004 04:35 AM

Speeder, it's probably a generational thing to be able to appreciate what the Beatles did for music, the music business, and my generation as a whole. No British Invasion, no Album as an art form, no crossover of music genre's, ......it's depressing to even think about it. Young people can't appreciate it because there is no one in their lifetime who even comes close to having the influence the Beatles did.

But what's the point in argueing with someone who would eliminate the Beatles and keep Brittany and N Sync. ;

But at least Brittany can dance. I would zap the forerunner to Brittany that can't sing or dance, and is not the pleasant to look at either...
