What do I do with a wrecked Camry?

My boy crashed his 1994 Camry night before last.
Hydroplaned into the freeway center divder, blew the airbags, but drove it home, unscathed by The Man or machine.
Amazing luck that kid.
This family car has 140K miles on it, ran great, still runs I assume, but not worth my time and effort to repair.
I'd like to get some sort of cash out of it for him so he can start out with a downpayment at least...
Clear title BTW.

Any suggestions?
In the Los Angeles area.

What does the insurance say, will they buy it from you? Usually if the airbags are blown then most insurance companies will total it out and give you fair market value. The cost of the airbags alone is usually several thousand dollars because of the complexity of the systems.

Thanks for the referral Steve.
84, not insured for collision, so that's the problem.

Tell EZ that he will give you the working guy rate. He did a bunch of body work on my Miata and painted 3/4 of the car (it's white) for $600.

I was thinking the same thing. Any experience with this? My neighbor did this two years ago at the fair and did OK. Maybe we could have CM team, I almost did this last year but I was a little worried about getting hurt. I can get some small sponsors (one an insurance company )and can borrow a flatbed to get to and from. Should only take a few weekends at most to set up a car.

Well if we can find a car, I'd be happy to do whatever I can to help out. I wish my sister-in-law still had her beater Mercury Cougar, that would have been an awesome choice.

Supposedly the place to get cars is a tow yard auction, that’s where the sponsor’s money goes. I am not sure I would want to drive though. As the fair and summer gets closer maybe we can reconvene on this thought.

go post on toyotanation.com and see if anyone wants it.

if it has a v6 you might be able to sell that on mr2oc.com because some guys swap those in n/a mr2's.

It looks like quite a bit of damage there... I remember my first accident, tapping the bumper of a Nissan Maxima, resulted in a small scuff that wasn't even definitly from my car - my insurance paid the guy $2500 to have the bumper removed, re-foamed, re-skinned, and paint matched at his Nissan dealer.

You have airbags to contend with, 2 fenders, a hood, a bumper, possibly bumper supports, maybe even slight frame damage - the inner fenders, underpanel, etc. are also probably shot, and you might have some cooling issues to contend with, for the price of the camry with 140k I would call that a total, I also doubt your ability to part components out (eg who wants to swap a 140k camry motor into their mr2 when for a little more $$$ they can get an 80k motor).

Were I in the situation with no collision insurance (big no-no, btw) I would probably just sell the car for scrap... it will cost $xxxx to fix, and when you're done you still have a car that isn't worth a whole heck of a lot. Bad situation with the rain, I had to pick someone up Wednesday in Pomona - on the way there I saw no fewer than 6 accidents in the process of being cleared up, and the person I was picking up got caught behind the massive 41-car pile up for a few hours.

On furthur inspection...

Thanks again all, I'll take advantage of all resources...Ecology sez "$100 and free towing"...gee thanks...

Surveyed the real damage yesterday. Car has 193K after all.
I drove it. It runs like a scared rabbit, very strong, shifts well, has the"power" button on the console. Kid put an AEM powerfilter on it, gives it some punch...

That said, I can't believe how good this vehicle runs, it's a cryin' shame. It steers well, you wouldn't know it's a wreck driving it with your eyes closed...

It will need a radiator, though I didn't see any major leaks, I could smell coolant when I got back.

Complete F/E body parts needed, as mentioned, maybe some F/E frame straightening, drivers door will need bodywork, as will the left rear quarter panel and light.
Oh yeah, and airbags...

If I had the time I could sell parts on e-bay, spoiler, mirrors, etc...no time, life is too short...I've got motorcycles to ride...

Any takers?
Make me an offer I can't refuse...

Just for conversation:
