Some NEW cars you guys would be interested in...

All this political talk in here is great, and as election day looms closer I'm sure the volume of political threads will pick up, but how about we just talk cars. I'll start off by posting some info on two new cars I'm especially excited about.

2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

500hp, 427 cubic-inch V8, pushrod 3-valve per cylinder, hand-built. Differences between the new Z06 and the standard C6 are more extensive than the previous models; different front fascia, fender flares, wheels/tires, interior bits, of course that lovely motor, suspension and I believe some structural reinforcements. Should weigh near what the previous model did, only with 100+hp more

http://forums.gminsidenews.com/showthread.php?threadid=8066

2005 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII RS

280hp turbocharged I4 like the other Lancers, except this one goes on a 180lbs. diet losing power windows, power door locks, power side-mirrors, that ugly rear wing, 5-speed only, no Xenon headlamps, no A/C, no rear wiper, no am/fm/cd player, no vanity mirrors, no trunk carpet, no rear "oh-****" handles, no map lights, no ABS and finally, no leather on the hand-brake boot. The car gets a front helical-type limited slip diff.

Just felt like sharing, everybody feel free to add to this thread any new cars you guys like, even if you're into the new Hummer H2 SUT

Steve, the R32s are pretty sweet. I had a run-in with one in my MINI and he destroyed me. I might actually trade up to one by next summer if I can find one left over at the dealer and they're eager to get rid of it. It's the only Golf still built in Germany, the rest are built in Mexico. Only thing I don't particularly like is the car is quite heavy, but it's LOADED with goodies (AWD, slick trans, awesomely appointed interior, that big ole 6-cylinder) so it more than makes up for the weight.

New Mustang. My friend who owns a current GT is pretty excited about it, can't say I really like it, but some wheels and a suspension drop will probably change my mind. J. Mays did a great job with the retro design, it's a car that will have presence on the road for sure. Unfortunately, like every other Mustang, everyone and their mom will have one within a year or two.

turbo6bar, the 997 is indeed beautiful. I saw one while heading home in a heavy downpour a couple nights ago. It was a standard Carrera waiting at a light with the Xenons shining bright and I slowed down just to admire the light from the street lights bouncing off those beautiful curves.

The new M5 is going to be slicker than grease (well, except for the Bangel body). 507hp and all the sick M goodies.

^I'm willing to bet the 1st year M5s will have motors that go BOOM like the early E46 M3s Once they get all the bugs worked out it'll be a very slick car, 7-speed SMG.......only thing that it needs is to have an ECU tuner remove that pesky 155mph top-speed limiter.

I dig the R32 but not the best bang for your buck.

Ford blew it with the Mustang and the solid rear axle, what a shame. But at least they still make the car unlike GM with no Camaro/Firebird.

The car that shocked me was the new Subaru Legacy, so much I bought one. Went in looking at getting a WRX as a daily driver and drove the new Legacy for kicks and it had all the power of the WRX and less lag and had all the luxury features you could want except navigation maybe. The car is well balanced and has tons of power (250HP and 250 torque) and the AWD lets you put the power to the pavement. Loaded you can get the car out the door for just under $28K
Check it out http://www.edmunds.com/new/2005/subaru/legacy/100396955/roadtestarticle.html?articleId=103180&tid=edmunds.h..wkedmunds.longterm.1.*

Golfs are made in Brazil not Mexico. R32 is fun but I would stay with Subaru STi

BMW = Horrid since Bangle won't even look at one until they correct their styling

Saw a Twin turbo Mini this past weekend at Eurofest. Bet that would be a fun ride

B D, the new Legacy is very pretty, much nicer than the WRX and like you said it comes with all the goodies and less turbo lag.

osidak, was the MINI you saw silver? If so, that's the twincharged car, not twinturbo. It has a turbocharger added to the existing supercharged setup, 250 wheel hp at 20psi of boost, 11psi from the blower and the rest from the turbo. Good spool-up characteristic of the blower and the top end of the turbo, the kit is actually coming out within the next few months and will be in competition with the John Cooper Works (which delivers 50hp less than the twincharged, but costs more....you do get to keep the warranty though)

M5? Hmph. Yesterday, during most of my commute home, I was wheel-to-wheel with an E28 M5 piloted by a hot blonde.

Makes you really appreciate the pre-90s BMWs!

I agree the Bangle-designed Bimmers are horrid...

FWIW I had a Dodge Durango 5.7 Hemi rental recently and for a plastic effin' tank that thing had some -serious- torque. I can only imagine what that engine would be like in a proper <3500lb car.

Unfortunately -- no joke -- the thing used about $15 worth of gas in ONE DAY to go around 60 miles across town and back. Yikes.

Are there any cars built these days that you drive and not program?

Give me $50K and I'll buy in Elise...

Wait, correction: I already have something that's better than an Elise...and the big plus: it's paid for.

I have to admit the new 300 is very classy-looking in a muscular Bentley sort of way. That said, as a former owner of various Chrysler vehicles, I've sworn a solemn oath to never own another.

You may not like the new 5 series but seeing the M5 in the flesh is very different...it is menacing in a way very few cars are...plus it sounds great....

The R32 is a donkey of a car.....all mixed up. A small nimble body lumbered with a heavy underresponsive drive train for the size

But put that same drive train in a larger car and it would be great....like the RS and S series Audis...

The new Golf Gti should be pretty good..
