Help settle my Phil Collins Lyrics bet.

I have a hundred with a buddy on a bar bet. I say in the song "In the Air Tonight" each chorus verse ends with "Oh Lord" and he says it's "Hold On". I checked all the lyrics sites and they confirm "Oh Lord".

Now the buddy claims he has found it with "Hold On" as well??? Does anyone have the CD/tape jacket containing the lyrics so we can get an official ruling

He also says he may have recorded it both ways to omit the reference to "Lord" in order to not offend people. I highly doubt that. Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dunno - found it both ways. It *sounds* like 'hold on'

I've always thought it was "Oh Lord".

Well, I have a considerable amount of hearing loss, so it could be "supper's on!" for all I know.

Pretty sure that it's Oh Lord. It's also in a movie with a P-car so you could always watch Risky Business and not feel bad about listening for the song

It's "Oh, Lord."

And - for those who remember the early Genesis albums with Collins, Rutherford, Banks and Peter Gabriel (sort of like Pink Floyd at the time) - the Milli Vinilli jab really hurts......

hey hey..."hold on"...

That Collins song and album ushered in what would become a staple of 80s music production: BIG GATED REVERBED DRUMS

Think of the break midway through the song where Phil hits the riff: "da da da dum da dum da dumm dum dumm"

Power Station soon picked up on this for their classic release of T-Rex's "Bang a Gong" as well as the seminal "Some Like it Hot"

oh the songs and sounds of 80s. Oh Lord.

Too bad his friend had to drown for him to have such a hit song.

Interesting you bring that up. In an interview Phil said most of the lyrics to his songs had no real story behind them....they just sounded good.

I have a few of his albums and after listening to them 3 or 4 times I'd put them away, never to be opened again.
