Tech -- thanks for starting this thread. Like JP, I don't know that I could have been so gracious had the outcome been different. With characters like we've all seen here, it'll be easier to come back together on our common ground -- remind me again which orchids grow best in the desert, how fast the speed of dark is, and pictures of bunnies with BB2 on their heads. :)

I guess that IS to be expected when you were getting in line with the rest of the "anyone but Bush" crowd.

Speeder's going to be sorry he missed the Group Hug; let's do one in a missing man formation in his honor, pending his return to a location with Internet access.

On the other hand, yet again, another man has lost his job as a result of the Bush administration!

Anyone else get theimpression that Dubya actually learned a few things during the campaign? In particular, the debates?

Hopefully it was a wake-up call. I don't hate the guy. I actually like him. So I hope he pulls it out for the next 4 years. Hope springs eternal.

Kurt -- LMAO.
Wait ... is he now going back into private practice? Damn, you just can't win this one as an American citizen.

Ouch- the Dems seem in higher spirits than some Bush supporters?!? :(

“I think [Kerry] should confer with michael moron, babs, alec baldwin and osama bin laden. Then he should say what has been painfully obvious for some time now, that he & the Breck girl are gay lovers and will be leaving politics to take up leadership roles in act up & queer nation.”

“It's really not close enough for him to Gore things up. As the man says, they can't cheat if it's not close.”

“Here, you dropped your pacifier”

“Widebutty says WHHAAAAAAA!”

“Go back to Canada, France, Spain or N Vietnam, I hear they accept losers, flakes, ingrates, draft-dodgers, and Commie-Pinko war heroes......”

So being the compassionate people we are, I think we need to find this poor sap [Daschle] a new job. I'm thinking undertaker would fit his demeanor fairly well. Any other suggestions?”

“Well, that is the first smart move Kerry has made in this election [conceding]. Best not to start the country off divided as the Dems did last year. Better to realize their defeat than go down in history as petty whinners, again.”

“What makes this soooo much better is that he was all puffed up by the staggeringly wrong (bad enough to look into why they were wrong) exit polls to believe he was going to win on the trot.”

"I guess there are 58 million idiots that don't know any better."

"HEY KERRY,
How does it feel to be rejected by AMERICA???? You know like you tried to make VIET NAM VETS rejected by the public..... Too bad the North VIETNAMESE could not vote HA HA HA HA....................."

Yup, Im with you guys on this one. I too am sad that its over, I had my hopes up. I guess my biggest fear is of another 4 years of Bush acting as if he's got 100% of the vote. With the country (and the world!) as divided as it is, I hope he'll consider the other 50% of us a little bit more.

I think the VillageVoice summed things up pretty clearly this morning when it stated "Its easier to vote for the kid who steals lunch money than it is for the kid who had his lunch money stollen".

Fortunately for us lefties, now that we've been wiped out in Washington, there aren't enough of us left to blame when all the big problems come along as I suspect they will. No more blaming Kerry and Edwards as the cause of our failed energy policies, or Clinton for the economy, etc, etc. All eyes are on the Republicans now, its their game to win or lose.

Im not optimistic, but I am relieved its all over.

Very nice thread Tech.

I think this whole thing proves that Americans as a group are not as ignorant as some of the ads and accusations (from both sides) make it look.

The majority has spoken and I hope that we can all unite for the common good. I think that contrary to what I read here, its not necesarily only up to The President; the majority of the responsibility is up to all of us.

We the people must mend our ties. If we do that, politicians will have no choice but to respect it.

Comments such as, for example, the closing comments by MichiganMat above won't get us there.

Its not my fault. Im just a shmuck with a computer.

In 2000, approx. 1/2 the electorate (not half the population) were divided in their choice of who would lead our country. Bush won despite not winning the popular vote.

4 years later, Bush won both the popular and electoral vote count. However, at about 3 million votes, it was not a landslide but a clear win. The election results still show about 1/2 the electorate are divided. I too hope Bush manages to unit the country and do the right things for our country.
