Boyd Coddington...Worst Boss in the World??

Has anyone had the displeasure of seeing B. Coddington and his band of brain dead employee's? And you have to think they've down a lot of serious editing to paint old bald Boyd in a complimentary light. I wonder what he's like with the camera's off. The show frustrates me, since they do produce some nice cars. I just can't figure how he keeps employee's to work for him on 80hr workdays so he can pocket a fat check. What a jerk!

bluebullet 11-04-2004 07:58 PM

i hate that show..his wheels are fugly too.

UconnTim97 11-04-2004 08:28 PM

Yes, I agree, he seems like an ogre to work for....

MichiganMat 11-04-2004 08:30 PM

him and Paul Sr. from Orange County Choppers... oye vey

and what about that ex wife of his (Boyds), christ.

give me a desk job any day of the week....

Porschekid962 11-04-2004 08:34 PM

Chip Foose looks like a cool guy to work for! Art Center alum baby!

UconnTim97 11-04-2004 08:47 PM

I always thought Paul Sr was hamming it up for the cameras...no one takes his tirades too seriously

Coddington say's he wants his show to illustrate the "hardships" of his business. He wants everyone to know that it's hard work creating "ART". It would be a whole bunch easier if he fired all those morons and hired PROFESSIONALS. The only decent person on that crew is his paint shop manager, and even he looks like he's getting fed up with BC's crap.

Here's some more interesting reading on the topic.

Didn't they get raided by the po-lice not too long ago? What ever happened with that?

Boyd is a douchebag. I am not knocking the struggles he may have faced while attaining his current position--but his whole operation looks second-rate. He has to be raking in the cash because his employees mostly appear to be high-school vo-techers. He probably pays everyone dirt, obviously has a cheap shop complex, and charges boatloads for his cars--which aren't even THAT nice. He got famous making fiberglass rods back in the day--gee how tough is that?

chibone_914 11-05-2004 06:07 AM

I actually met the guy years ago when he had the shop in Stanton (when I was at Super Shops). What an ego! not to mention an arrogant *********. He just designs, he couldn't fabricate an alternator bracket to save his life.

However, the show portrays his wife (ex-wife now)as a b!tch it couldn't be further from the truth. She is a very sweet lady IMHO. All the shops business go though her, as well as having to handle all the screwups that need $$$, then she would get upset. His new wife is nothing more than arm candy.

It seems like Paul senior is just playing it up for the camera, Boyd seems like a genuine arrogant pr&*k

techweenie 11-05-2004 06:56 AM

It seems to me that when Boyd says something 'nice' or 'generous' about his crew, its kind of off to the side, as if the producers induced him to say it to offset the PMS funk he's usually in.

The excursions to kart tracks, ski slopes and skydive simulators are sooo artificial.

Of course at show unveilings, he's generous with his compliments to the crew. It looks to me as if he runs a shop full of people hoping to add to their resumes before starting their own shops. The only one I'd ever consider taking a car to is Charlie, the paint shop manager.

If you watch American Chopper, it looks like Boyd has a whole crew of Mikeys.

i think chip foose and Troy Trepanier should put boyd outta business soon.

TerryBPP 11-05-2004 07:10 AM

I kinda understand the relationship between Paul Sr. & Paul Jr. on American Chopper. The kid is an amazing craftsman but lazy. I'm sure if his dad didn't own the shop he would have been fired long ago. Paul Sr. has no choice but to chew him out all the time because he can't fire him. I think it's a little dramatised for TV, but still valid.

techweenie 11-05-2004 07:15 AM

Foose is great -- can draw like crazy and has a great personality (at least after editing). He also seems to have real leadership skills. And, he gets his hands dirty, which I admire.

I wish his design solutions weren't so predictable. He's a little too in love with dramatic two-tone paint jobs. And his wheels? Well... at least he shows some imagination there, but I don't think I've yet seen a set I'd want on a hot rod.

KevinP73 11-05-2004 07:15 AM

From the discussion boards on the DC web site, Charley is now working with Chip Foose and Blue Bear has been fired. Sounds like a win/win situation to me.
Do you think Boyd has been made aware of what a bafoon he appears to be and do you think it matters to him?

techweenie 11-05-2004 07:21 AM

Kev:
Yes and no.

chibone_914 11-05-2004 07:55 AM

Chip Foose simply amazes me. Give me someone who can draw, design, build, fabricate and friggin paint......all aspects mastered. Chip, IMHO is the man, genuine, and seems to be a no-nonsense, nice kinda guy. No pretention or ego to deal with.

The workplace he has is a psychological nightmare. From all the petty arguements that arise, it reminds me of places I use to work when going to college. Everyone hates their jobs and they are looking to lash out at anything and everyone. No respect for anyone. I'm glad I'm not the only one that see's this. This is more apparent then the overdone rod the bang out for one of Boyd's Hawaiian shirted friend going through a mid-life crisis. The last show I watched was the "boot camp" episode. What a croc!!
