Cheap liabilty insurance that can start today

Well... to cut a long, long story short.. I need insurance, and it would be really preferable if coverage could start today, and even more preferable if it is as cheap as possible.

Any reccomendations? I only need liability, for now.

Ummm.... If Progressive canceled you, there may not be any cheap. Cancelled why? Bad driving record will follow you to all of the ins companies. They talk. Seems like a 5 year deal?

I don't know about NH but most state have dealers that specialize in basic insurance, it's usually cheap and start when you cut the check at the agent's office. Yellow Pages would be the best place to look, also alot of these guys locate their office right near the DMV.

edit: I think it's called sr22 in alot of states

I think SR-22 is a high-risk pool.
I was in it for a little while....

Progressive monitored Clowd's tirades on OT Forum and decided to cancel his policy. That's my guess.

Possibly. Methinks they killed his policy since Bush is about to ship him and his pals all off to Iraq. He just doesn't know it yet.

Either that or it's a hint to go to France.

Your comments are extremely helpful and much appreciated.

Progressive claims I never sent in proof of previous insurance, I got a refund, minus about 400 of what I originally payed, and now I can't drive, unless I want to risk driving without insurance, which I don't. So I need insurance as soon as possible.

if you didn't have insurance then that would be an issue. If so, re-obtain proof or stick with your previous carrier.

Either that or take the policy declaration they issued when you paid and go to a different carrier with that as your proof of prior insurance

backdate the existing policy with a page scanner. (oops, did I suggest that? Crooked me...)

Or just take your licks and pay the $$$. Only real choices you have.

They do credit checks too make sure that's not the issue. From what I understand every state except CA it's legal to take credit into account when pricing policies. Can't get around that issue so take the hit.

If you have a clean record, I would go with a preferred company like State Farm, American Family, Liberty Mutual etc. Not having previous insurnace is not a deal breaker....they will just charge you higher rates off the start.

My recommendation would be to start a policy with any random company...then change it over in a month or so. That way you can sign a new policy but won't get hit with the "no previous insurance" rate with the new company.

It's not that I don't have previous insurance(I even have current insurance, just on a different car.) It's that they claim I never sent in proof(which I did) and they canceled me. I will check out State Farm, Liberty Mutual was wayyy too high.

I had my motorcycle through Geico. With credit card, you can have insurance same day. They were cheaper than Progressive at that time. Not sure about autos. I have USAA which is as cheap as it comes. Have to be a vet or married to one.
