This blew my mind: David Lee Roth, a paramedic...

....in NYC....has gone on over 200 calls and actually saved a person by use of a defibulator. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=529&ncid=529&e=2&u=/ap/20041116/ap_en_mu/people_roth Seems he's quite commited. Power to him, I say. EDIT: Spelling as always.

I heard this this morning on 1010; it seemed like a secular "finding Jesus" to me... Good on him. JP

That would be pretty surreal.. Get in a car crash and you lookup, and there's DLR working on you... He used to work in an ER in his pre-Van Halen days.. and his dad was a prominent surgeon, so it's not too much of a stretch I suppose.... Dr. Roth was the one who financed Van Halen in the early days prior to signing from what I understand.... Last edited by Jared at Pelican Parts; 11-16-2004 at 09:34 AM.. | ||

I heard that on 200 calls, no one has recognized him; it's sad to be an ageing rocker...

They probably don't recognize him because he's pretty much bald.

i heard a morning show radio discussion about it this morning. the traffic girl commented on his look, she compared him to one of those funky haired troll dolls, without the hair. you know the ones from when we were kids, in the 70's?

About 15 years ago a friend of mine flipped his T/A and was pinned underneath it.. He had VHII in his tape-deck and had to listen to it over and over for about 4 hours.. "Somebody get me a doctor!.." 3rd song on the album IIRC.. hehehe He just hates Van Halen now.. can you imagine if DLR was his paramedic?.. hehehe

As you can see his forehead took up quite a bit of real estate even back in '88. I read that he shaved his head for this EMT gig. I'm sure we'll be seeing spy shots sooner or later.

| What?!?! |
I think it's pretty cool. And I would wager that DLR probably enjoys the fact that he's not recognized. I'm sure lots of famous 'entertainer-type' folks may have issue with losing their fame but I would imagine that if he did, he would find something with a little less exposure to do. He's probably in it for the rewarding aspects and could care less about his social status. Back in the day, I would have a hard time understanding his rationale. He was quite 'over the top' and a definite "Look at me" dude. I work in the medical field I get a certian intangible boost out of what I accomplish.
