"The ugliest thing I've ever seen as a coach..."

Woo-hoo: the NBA hits an all-time low. Larry Brown's quote barely does this brawl justice.

At least in football, you can legally hit.

BlueSkyJaunte 11-19-2004 09:31 PM

Further proof that professional athletes are nothing more than wildly overpaid 8-year-olds.

speeder 11-19-2004 11:40 PM

That might go down as the worst sports brawl in U.S. history, just fricking unbelievable!

Some lawyers are just licking their chops right now, wish I could get punched by a multi-millionaire on camera, sheet.......

What is it about Detroit's fan's? Win at hockey = riots and fires. Win at baseball = riots and fires. Lose at a non event basketball game and they start throwing stuff at the opposing team. Everyone involved in this mess was in the wrong and should be held accountable.

cegerer 11-20-2004 04:57 AM

This kinda crap is hardly limited to Detroit fans. How about the NBA Laker riots in 2000 in Los Angeles? How about the 70,000 Vancouver, B.C. fans after they lost the Stanley Cup running thru the streets amidst clouds of tear gas? Or the Montreal fans in 93 after winning the Stanley Cup who did $10 million in damage and injured 50 police officers? How about the Univ of Wisconsin football fans who crushed 73 people after their football win against U of M? How about the local 8-year-old-and-under baseball league?

Of course, the kings of sports fan violence are the Europeans with their mass riots at soccer matches.

Bottom line: People have some real serious physcological problems when they take sports this seriously,

trj911 11-20-2004 05:05 AM

Good point cergerer. I should not have limited my disgust to Detriot fans.

cegerer 11-20-2004 05:10 AM

Yeah, it's to a point where I don't really even enjoy going to some of my kids sports games. Some of the parents are just un-friggin believable. While I haven't witnessed any violence directly, just the verbal comments are enough to say, "just shut the F up and let the kids play!".

928ram 11-20-2004 05:25 AM

As a viewer and a fan, I just don't find pro sports fun anymore. Stuff like this is one reason, but the fact that sports are all about business and not about playing is the main reason.
It's a disgusting situation that I refuse to contribute to any longer.

turbo6bar 11-20-2004 06:15 AM

opiate, masses, scary

Jeff964 11-20-2004 07:20 AM

NBA and WWF all-in-one sport!!!

on-ramp 11-20-2004 07:29 AM

this will probably help ratings, but dont know about game attendance in the future.

84porsche 11-20-2004 02:26 PM

The players and fans just miss hockey so much that they had to start something. Those LA fans that started those riots in 2000 were a bunch of losers that look for something to riot about but those certainly were not the feelings of those around here. Thanks to Shaq we got the police car replaced that was destroyed.

Staylo 11-20-2004 04:39 PM

Well, at least Artest is going to get that month off he was looking for......

Any player that goes into the stands like that should be out of the game..... permanently...and in jail with the fan.
In that cage match, my $ is on Wallace.

911pcars 11-20-2004 04:56 PM

My expectation from all of this:

Ben Wallace is fined and suspended for going after Artest.

Players who went into the stands are fined and suspended for X games.

Spectators (identified on video) who fought or who threw objects get their seat privileges yanked, jailtime and/or fines.

The guys who came onto the floor and got slugged have no say. They too get their seats yanked and a fine for their stupidity.

Jermaine ONeal gets add'l fine and suspension for hitting the above defenseless spectator who was just hit a few seconds earlier by an unidentified suit (the guy probably deserved it anyway).

Detroit arena gets fined for not providing enough/adequate security.

The next Detroit-Indiana game goes on Pay-Per-View.

Sherwood

dd74 11-20-2004 06:11 PM

All players involved - Artest, O'Neal and Wallace - have been suspended indefinitely.

Which means NOTHING really...

As soon as their bling bucks start running out, they'll be petitioning, crying, begging, etc...

Like children.

Jared at Pelican Parts 11-20-2004 06:13 PM

I wonder how this violence compares to european football matches....

trj911 11-20-2004 06:14 PM

Sherwood your assesment make a lot of sense. I hope the chicken fans who took punches at the heads of players from the back side get some kind of punishment.

Staylo- I love it! Ron Artest gets time off to promote his album!

dd74 11-20-2004 08:52 PM

Meanwhile, Clemson and South Carolina - great way to send out Holtz...

cegerer 11-21-2004 06:14 AM

I just hope they track down the "fans" involved and revoke their seats. These seats right behind the bench are the most expensive in the place. Sure would be nice to see them get their $20,000+ season tickets yanked this early in the season! :D

cegerer 11-22-2004 06:04 PM

Wow, looks like this mental-midget who threw the beer on Artest is a real choirboy .......
