Amex contest: buy a Z4 for $5000 Monday only!
I know how excited all you Pelicans got when Wayne gave away a clock for being the person made the 500,000th post... and let me tell you it IS a good looking clock (he he!).
Well, if you've got an American Express card you can try a similar contest today. Amex is "selling" three BMW Z4s for $5000. The only trick is that you have to be the first one to click the "I want it" button at 12pm, 4pm. or 11pm ET today (Monday 11.29.04). Here's the details: http://www.mylifemycard.com/mywishlist/mywishlist.html If anybody here wins, I expect a ride! Good luck!

I wouldn't pay $5k for a Z4. Those things are ugly!

Seems like their server was just a bit overloaded for the 12pm contest.

Lee,
Posting it to "the world" really helps your odds! Now the server will be even more overloaded! Have been watching this for a week now and waiting until something I want comes up... Joe A

Well, I figured my odds weren't great anyway. I'm sure a lot of people were frustrated with the server jam. For the 2pm contest I'm going to open several browsers. Then I can click the magic button several times to increase my odds. I wonder how many people were trying to get in there.

Lee,
Little tip here. If you need computer help, call me. Buy a cheap second video card and install it in your computer. Plug a second monitor (I prefer flat panels) into the puppy and you can really multi-task with it. I have three flat panel monitors on my desk, run by two extra video cards and the one built onto the motherboard. Can run email, Pelican and several other things at one time and a lot easier. When bidding on Ebay or something like the AmEx gig I open two windows like you mentioned but put one on each screen. Can watch and change things a lot faster this way. Also is very nice for doing stock trades and such. Once you get used to having more than one monitor there is no going back! Joe

Too big to fail

For ebay, use a sniping program. For the Amex thing, you can bet someone has something automated in place already to snipe it.

Thom,
Am kinda old fashioned. Know about the sniping programs but I can do it just as well as long as I am home. Put a page of www.timeanddate.com up for the "nuts on" time hack on one screen and two copies if the auction on the other screens. I never bid like this unless having done a bid before. Hate the people who drop in for the first time at the last 3 seconds but some do and assume its with the program you mentioned. Joe A

I was thinking that it would be funny, but not a big surprise if all three winners are computer programmers.
Now that the rush is over I've got it loaded in six browsers for the 4pm ET contest. I'd love to know what sort of traffic they're getting.
