What are your priorities? Super-thin, small footprint, bells & whistles, cheap, rugged, etc?

Had a 8100/8200 series Dell and it was just a boat anchor. Worked very nice but just too big and heavy.
Now have a 600 series Dell and its 2.5 pounds lighter and a 1/2 inch thinner. Might look there, or a IBM Thinkpad. Doing without a floppy drive or a swapable drive helps. Joe A

Acer is a second tier product, fine for home use, browsing the Internet, etc. But I wouldn't bet my job on it. If this is for business as much as personal, go with a different model Dell or IBM. You will be much happier in the long run.

Definitely agree with the idea of a Thinkpad. They're a tad on the expensive side, but for the money, I think they're well worth it. We use the T30, T40 and T42 models at work and our users love them. Lightweight, with loads of features.
Take a look here. Randy

Have had very good luck on Ebay with Thinkpads. They can be expensive but usually no problems and IBM supports them, period.
Have had problems with other brands and lack of support (parts not available) so I tend to stay with a name brand. Joe

Basically looking for a low cost, not huge, way to get on-line for the most part. Mostly recreational, but I travel a lot and some of my business is e-mail dependent.
Side note-Can magazine reviews be trusted? The Acer did pretty well. |

have a Dell Latitude D600 as well, and love it. Great support from the Small Business side of Dell too. Here are a few I would consider if lightness/mobility is a big factor:
