FAKES! on Ebay.

As a bookseller, i'm always amused at some of the fakes on ebay that people bid on.

here's one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29223&item=6936523932&rd=1

If you look very carefully at the signature, Stephen King's last name is spelled "Knig"

"Ah, Mr. King, thank you for autographing my book, but, umm, i think you spelled you're last name wrong"

Also from the ad, quite amusing:

"ALL IT COMES DOWN TO IS STEPHEN KING'S AUTOGRAPH IS HIGHLY SOUGHT. PUT IT ON A HIGH QUALITY 1st EDITION AND ITS MONEY IN THE BANK."

"Q: I was looking at you signed copy of Pet Semetery and I noticed that "King" is spelled incorrectly. How authentic is this??? Answered on Nov-19-04
A: Hello- When I bought this book I asked the same thing. I was told by the Book Dealer that is wasn't uncommon for Author to Sign like this. Please go to: http://www.fadedgiant.net/html/king__stephen.htm and paste in browser. It shows King's Signatures. Sorry I didn't cover this in auction. This copy was purchase from a highly respect book dealer. Fred@webb_stuff"

oh, i missed that one. LOL!

I think it must be especially valuable when an author misspells his own name: Stephn Knig -- kinda like those mis-printed postage stamps...

But on eBay, a 10-year old toasted cheese sandwich just sold for $28K.

i think ebay pulled his ad. ... first of all, you know it was a fake because the reserve was only set at around $100.... a real signed Stephen King 1st edition of that type would be worth triple that amount.
