My ears hurt just reading it. I have a 50's era siren mounted on my VW bus, under the passenger-side floor. It's 6v - the bus is 12v, and that's painful - I can't imagine 138db. Oh, and never stick your fingers in the vane-slots when it's winding down, ok! Trust me.

Neat...
We used to have one of these (maybe a smaller version? I don't remember scale that well) on the roof of my elementary school. Used it for tornados after they phased out the air-raid drills in the '80s.

That's so cool!

Down at our Beachhouse, the local naval base have one that they used to test on Sunday mornings for the local Country Fire Authority (CFA), or when they'd go out on the gunnery course in the channel. The naval guns were pretty cool, too.

Although the one I grew up listening to was more the British-style Battle of Britain siren... higher pitched and more up/down/up/down.
