Kevin,

Did you get yourself a new car? The last time I saw you, you had the odd purple one. Did you sell that for the other guy whose wife didn't want the car if I remember correctly.

I know it's a reflection, but it looks like someone rode a motocross bike over your hood.

Nope not mine. I just refinished it. This came in with about 7 coats of paint of varying quality so we stripped it to bare metal. It's finished with PPG two stage in Polar Silver. It shows real blue due to the light and my crappy camera. The "purple" one is still at the shop, still for sale

What did you use to strip er with - Chemicals, Sanding or Soda Blast or Bead Blast? Hear bead blasting is the way to go. Any ideas?

On this one I used 80# on a DA sander for the majority of the exterior. A little chemical stripper in some of the hard to reach areas in the door jambs and around the wiper shafts.
I like to use a media blaster (plastic media) who is nearby but he has about an 8 week back log so I did this one in shop. I'm going to restore a 356 the first of next year and will have that car dipped as it will be a high budget restoration. I haven't used a "soda" blaster as yet but don't see anything wrong with the process.

Backdate the puppy and make it look the way it should!

356ers always seem to want to Concour more than any others. There seems to be such a differnce in Porsche owners. Try defining 944ers, 928ers, 924ers, 911ers and 356ers - all very differnt personalities. Guys that own a few different models seem unique in there own right. Interesting...

(The above quote was edited for clarity by myself)
Being the owner of the aforementioned 356 I would to say that I don't see the 356 as just a car, or as just a PORSCHE. For me and my husband, who will eventually be givin the car, the 356 is a piece of history. A piece of art that deserves to be cherished and honored. I couldn't imagine NOT restoring this car to it's original glory and to do it with pride of ownership. I'm sure the car will be enjoyed just as other Porsche owners enjoy their cars only we'll be going a bit slower as we do.

Please, dear lady with the sharp knives - no disrespect intended!

Now that we have the profile of 356rs nailed down...just for *****s and fits, offhand - what would you do if you saw a 356 with small bock buried in it, a fin on the bum, ricer pipes and a velour dash?

ooooo doggie, I'z can hears da screamin down he-r in da Big D! :)

I didn't notice that as much until I got my 914. The 944 guys, on this board at least, are total purists and anyone even thinking about a swap or crazy modification will get flamed. 914 guys are totally up for any swap, any mod, and seem just happy to see more of their cars on the road.

I don't know many 911 guys, but I hear they have dinky wangs :p that's a JOKE, don't get all pissy.

it may be small, but it is oil cooled!

I would tell you how much I enjoy your little car and would make you promise me a ride next time I was down to the Big D.
You see....... how I enjoy my car may seem as strange to you, as how strange I think your car may be. But the fact that you enjoy your car is more important than how I see it.

M.D. Holloway 12-13-2004 08:08 PM

Actually Doc, yous be preach'n to da choir. Ya see, I have what may be one of the most unreliable P-cars made - a 77, 911 with a 2.7L. I haven't and won't do any of the normal upgrades to the engine (still has a 5-fin and will stay - a true rebel move for anyone with a 2.7L) but will fix when she breaks and suspect she will. Thats what bonus checks are for! So you see - it's cool to keep orig, but Gruppe B, now thats a whole other thread...

DrBarrett356 12-13-2004 08:13 PM

What is this "Gruppe B" you speak of?
