There is, or at least should be in a civilized society a differentiation between athletic competition and violence. If you think it’s sport to shoot a drunk in the back with a taser, then you have a problem my friend.

From the smilely faces, I'll take that you do know the difference, and are making a joke - cheers.

You're right, kach. It would be much more "sporting" to emulate a REAL sport, like Professional Wrestling....

Let me guess, when pinkie had to make a drunk leave the bar he would pull up a chair next to him & start one of his diatribes on one conspiracy or the next untill the guy left from boredom or to save his sanity? Is that how it went?

Hmm, let's see, if I had the choice between using a taser to subdue an unruly drunk and wrestling in the highway.........

LOL!

The other links about cops tazer a 6 and 12 year old show they have no patience or skill on dealing with the public they are supposed to protect. Anybody with decent credit, no back child support and no criminal record can be a cop.

One day your the high school bully, three weeks after prom your the local cop who drives a ricer after work, with a badge, a gun and attitude.

So Florida (that messed up state that is) gives cops tazers and says have at it, then start tazering little children left and right. Let alone highway drunks.

How did cops from pre 1990s deal with kids or drunks with no push button pain inflicting technology? Oh ya, they did it the hard way.

Not really. I went after them like a mouth foaming rabid neoconistic redneck after some pot smoking, gay, tree hugging liberal who questioned his patriotism!

When you put it that way, the taser is looking pretty good.

All I'm saying, which may differer from other bleeding hearts here; there is no need to cheer about it, call it an ugly necessity (the taser). We should expect more of ourselves than to celebrate violence.

I'm thinking that I'd rather go the taser route as opposed to one of those bean bag shotgun things....that looks nasty.

I think Rick's got the ticket. If you've seen Jack Ass the movie, Jonny Knox gets hit with one of those in the stomach.

UFO, you can find bad examples all day long. We can find good examples all day long. So whats your point? Krumpets and tea aren't going to get a "mouth foaming rabid neoconistic redneck" to settle down.

One more thing, pot smokers are about as dosial as they come. With some hippie mixed in, your talking about one lazy ass individual.

Kach, he kept going!!!! How is that not amazingly funny? He's on the ground pleading for the officer to stop/telling the office "Don't f@ck with me". He has not control over the situation, yet keeps on going. FIVE times this guys gets tazered. Each time he yelps. Its more like saying "Holly *****" and laughing and laughing at the same time.

I could never be a cop. I know i'm too suspetable to being on a power trip. But more off, i wouldn't pull over people doing 80mph in sports cars. I'd be pulling over every single dick who's holding up 5 or more cars on windy mountain roads. I'd be pulling over minivans with kids bounceing around in the back. I'd be pulling over people in the fast lane doing 65mph creeping by semi's holding up a mile of traffic.

Miami Police Use Taser To Subdue Wheelchair-Bound Man

MIAMI -- Miami police say they used a Taser stun gun to subdue a wheelchair-bound man who threatened them with scissors.

Police say they responded to a domestic violence all at a home where the man got into an argument with his girlfriend, then threw a soda can at her 13-year-old daughter.

Police say the man resisted officers and threatened them.

The man's name was not released. He was taken to jail, but no charges were immediately filed.

--------------------

Another hero for you pro cop apologists. I guess this wheelchair guy was simply too much for them armed cops to handle? Again in Florida, home of rigged voting and cops who tazer wheelchair bound people and tazer 2nd graders.

Nice link. So once again, what's your point? All cops with Tazers are bad?

First thing that went through my head was if he was holding scissors, was that to threaten the cops or himself? If immediate bodily harm was possible to either the cop or the suspect then this action would be warrantable. What you posted doesn't give very good details.

And is this supposed to prove your point? Which is what exactly? ALL COPS ARE BAD?

Next time your car gets broken into or someone decides to shut your lip for you and a cop bails you out remember what you're saying.

Cops and republicans are bad. Such a simplistic outlook on life.. So black and white..

I've had a problem lately getting the audio on these things, and have to admit that only now played it.

What does it look like without sound?

1. The guy does not look or act drunk - at least not at first.

2. From the angle of his car, looks like he, A: fell a spleep at the wheel and stoped on top of a road sign, which propped up the front of the car. B: was drunk, got off the road on to the shouder and had his car ride up and hump a 911, or a trailer or an abandoned motorcycle.

3. The merry go round struggle looked funny, but I am sure was serious/dangerous to at least one of them.

4. I saw three taser shot to the back, two to the front as he lay begging/pleeding - without sound it's real sary/sad, not funny at all. I suppose the little yelps add an element of humor in an odd way for some.

5. If anyone wants to nominate the driver for a "Darwin Award" go for it, the guy is stupid as they come.

6. If it were a sport, it would be poor sportsmanship to take glee or joy at anothers pain. Do you jeer at the injured at a game? Do you cheer when the guy goes down hurt. We cheer when he gets up (or is carried off the field), should not mater which side you are on.

7. Yep context is everything. There is not enough humor for me to think this is funny, there is enough pain to see the tragedy. Laughing at a persons pain is different than laughing with them. I doubt this stuborn and stupid man is someone we need laugh at.

Kach -
I can't speak for others here, but to the extent it was humerous, it was not out of some sadistic glee watching this guy get zapped. To the extent is was "funny" it's b/c this guy, who has resisted arrest and is obviously on the wrong end of the taser, kept saying "no"... like it's going to change anything. I mean WTF?? It's a dry, "what is wrong with this guy" laugh of disbelief, in my case.

OK, maybe there was also a little element of Nelson's "HA-Ha" that a dirtbag that would wrestle with a cop under those circumstances got taken down.

FWIW, I didn't hear begging or pleading, I heard and saw warnings by the cop, the bonehead's refusal to comply with oft repeated simple requests, resisting arrest and noncompliance with an officer of the law -- an officer who was enforcing our laws to keep this guy off the road.

I mean, what was the cop supposed to do --
"Put your hands behind your back"
"No"
"Please"
"No"
"Oh, OK, have a nice night sir, drive safe."

I think the cop acted well w/in the bounds of propriety. I can't abide the "wait 'til he's got the gun and pointed at you to react (if it's unloaded, do you have to wait for him to load it before you respond?). Less-than-lethal force (and used w/ no material permanent damage) was justified to end the situation before the cop got hurt, the guy got a weapon or got in the truck (which, as Bell rightly says, is a weapon if this guy is impaired), or either of them got hit by a passing vehicle.

Red - I didn't read the thing about the scissors, but continuing the notion in the prior paragraph, I would not ask someone to wait until they were sliced or stabbed by scissors to react. Sure, they're "only" scissors, but that means the cop's got to risk laceration, stabbing or loss of an eye b/c the weapon wielded isn't a firearm? It's only two knives hinged in the middle? That's ludicrous; not to mention the potential threat to civilians around the weapon wielder.

Assault is a crime; and in most US jurisdictions, assault is merely the reasonable apprehension of being hit/harmed; it has little to do with the "degree" of harm that would most likely result.

Though many jurisdictions have boutique names for it (menacing, reckless handling of a firearm, whatever) if I come up to you and point a shotgun (say) at your head, that's an assault crime; same if I wield scissors at you. If I do either at a cop, and get tasered, I'd feel fortunate that the PD could afford the tasers.

JP
