I always tell Pelican to use UPS, and have never had a problem. Fedex almost always screws up. Several times they have not delivered a package, claiming no one was home, when I was home!
A few weeks ago I ordered a Momo Porsche horn button from www.departstop.com. It disappeared into the bowels of Fedex, never to reappear. Vendor refused refund so I had my credit card company charge it back to him - let him deal with FedEx. (BTW avoid "departstop" on eBay - they auction things they do not have).

I think UPS and FedEx are equally bad, I think when it's time for you to loose a package it doesn't matter who's carrying it. I always buy insurance now.

The bigger problem is the time of year. You're probably a 1000 times more likely to loose a package this week.

UPS lost a kart cylinder of mine at Chrismas 2 years ago. At first their tracking site showed it was damaged. Damaged I could live with. Then a couple days later it switched to lost. Lost is hard to repair. It wasn't insured, but the plater that was sending it back got me $160.

Have had this happen a couple of time with FedEx ground. These guys are paid to drop the box and run. Well, I travel for a living and they dropped both a set of tires and a box on my doorstep and ran.

I return home after a week on the road and nothing is there. Contact FedEx and they say that it was left there and signed. I ask for a copy of the signature, only to find out that it was "self released" by the driver. Shipment was marked "signature required" so they got in hot water. Had to replace both the tires and parts in the box.

Contact them and the shipper. If it was not self released then ask for a copy of the signature then go after them. Know that they are busy this time of year but then so are we. They do not do this for free, and should be professionals at it. I use UPS surface or FedEx Air when I have to have it.

We've had two instances where an expensive ($250-500) overnight delivery of a hardcase- packed prototype electric bicycle was damaged in FedEx shipment. In the first instance, the bike was damaged inside the case and the second package was rerouted to the Department of Homeland Security, where monkeys tore apart and destroyed a $330 NiCad battery pack. The second time (last week) FedEx ran a forklift 'fork' through a $250 hard case and did damage to the bike.

You can't win. Had posters sent to our office from Porsche NA. We build skis for them. Some monkey crushed a doubled up tube purposely I'm sure. All the posters were junk.

you guys know that UPS and fed ex combined deliver billions of packages a year, like 3 or 4 billion.
them losing one is more likely to happen if you order more car parts than the avarage Joe.
There are amounts that you can insure a package for that almost guarantee delivery. No belts, hand carried, locked up, checked in etc.
rcm is right, you can't win, it will happen to everyone if you live long enough

I was sitting in front of the computer today when I heard what sounded like a FedEx truck. I looked out the window and saw the driver drop off a package next door. I went downstairs expecting the next stop to be at my house. No luck, he kept on driving. I went next door and sure enough it was a package from Pelican (no my neighbor doesn't have a Porsche). I expect them to be in hurry today but how much trouble would it have been to stop in front of the right house? And yes, both my neighbor and I have well marked addresses as did the package.

One day last week I happened to be behind a Fedex truck at dusk. The guy really didn't seem to be paying attention to his deleveries so I said "What the hell!"

Three times he would drop the package off and I would run up and grab it, then follow him to the next delivery. You should see the stuff I got! An FrWilks chip! 2 sets of rims and a pair of custom seats!

Yeah... yeah... I'm lyin. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! (Gone till after the 1st)

You may be joking but it happens with more frequency than you would think

We know the UPS and Fed Ex delivery men in our area, so we just gave them the keycode to our garage. When they have a package, they just open the garage, stick the package in, close the door, and leave.

Fed-ex doesn't even deliver to my door because I live outside city limits? They use a lowest bidder delivery service. Always some hillbillt with an old junker.
UPS keeps delivering with even ringing the door. Probably because I keep ragging him on the handling charges I get screwed with over the border. A little while ago they left a large package on the doorstep when I was out. Worth 50,000$ I flipped a lid over that one.

I have had some problems with UPS ground. I watched via tracking a package come from Ca to MI. I thought it was going to be on my doorstep and then for some reason went back to CA and then finally made it back again to MI. It was something I was in a hurry for so the 9 day trip across the country was not something I was excited about. Their 3 day guarantee was worthless. I spent several hours trying to resolve it but got nowhere. I also received a water damaged package where the contents were somewhat damaged. Got nowhere on that issue either.

On the other hand I sent out a P-car headlight assembly to someone else via Fed-Ex ground. It arrived cracked. Fed-Ex paid for the part and the return shipping. Fed Ex has cheaper prices and for me better service.

I used DHL ground once and they gave a free upgrade to next day air! I will try them again.
