You may have cracked the code there!
Londo Mollari is going to be our new ruler;)
My favourite quote (paraphrased) from Londo is:
"When you said party I was thinking of wine, women, debauchery. But I forgot, a religious ceremony is the Minbari's idea of a good time"

At least the UFO people aren't claiming that everyone who doesn't believe in them will be tortured for eternity.

As the bumper sticker says "Lord, protect and deliver us from your followers."

I remember one:

"If going to church makes you a Christian, does going to the garage make you a car?"

This guy (LMiller) received two pages for only his second post. Impressive...

Damn, that made me laugh out loud.

I've seen more and more people recently proclaim themselves 'Christian' while exhibiting no discernable Christian behavior... and they defend it by saying it's not what you do; it's what you believe.

Remember a couple of years ago when a prominent "Christian" -- I think it was Jerry Falwell or Oral Roberts -- said the antichrist was born and she was a Jewish woman? I was sure (he) meant Laura Schlessinger, but he quickly retracted it. I'm pretty sure Dr. Laura was born in NYC -- aka Babylon. Or maybe it was Brooklyn.

Lmiller,

Should we thank Jesus for this as well?

Lighten up Francis.......

I'm getting confused here.... Does all this Christian bashing mean that we are free to mock and belittle all faiths? How about the absence of faith? Ohhhh this could get good!

Icemaster 12-28-2004 02:29 PM

Len,

I'm not about Christian or any kind of religious bashing at all - that's wrong.

All I want is to be left alone and not have to be preached at by those that feel they are (pardon this...) holier than thou....

If you want to believe, then do so. If I dont want to belive, please respect that.

It reminds me too much of the damned "Baby On Board" signs from 20 years ago. Quit preaching.

I haven't seen any Buddhists come onto the forum and start blathering on about how theirs is the only way to salvation, etc. When/if they do, let the belittling begin.

And with athiests, well we *know* they're going to hell.... :p

lendaddy 12-28-2004 02:33 PM

I don't preach, I'm not a very religious person. But I find it hillarious that those claiming acceptance of all have such a seething hatred of Christians. So much so that they make bumperstickers???!!!!???

Hmm, what/who wlse is it OK for me to hate publicly via this same method? Is it restricted to religion or is skin color and/or nationality in bounds?

Are you delusioned into thinking they don't believe that? Or does the fact that they think it but avoid saying it to your face make you feel better? I really don't get the venom.

on edit: I'm not sure what Buddhists believe exactly regarding an afterlife, but I'm pretty sure I'm not included:)

With all this religious zealotry surrounding us I'm thinking we're already there.

I don't hate anyone, except telemarketers, what I hate are actions vis-a-vis those individuals who determine by their own criteria that my choice of agnosticism is the wrong one and I must be saved from my own misguided philosophy.

All I asked is to be left alone, I made my choice. Please accept that and dont preach to me how Jesus is the way and the life. Maybe for others, not for me.

techweenie 12-28-2004 03:07 PM

Show me the venom!

lendaddy 12-28-2004 03:15 PM

Perhaps venom was a poor choice of words, but then again maybe not. It's this constant mocking that I was refering to. What ever happened to "It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God.
It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg."

- Thomas Jefferson

Icemaster 12-28-2004 03:42 PM

Well there you go then. Perfect answer, thank you Mr. Jefferson.

Venom is an appropriate choice, there's been some real doozers in here lately. IMHO there's been an equal amount of vitriole from both sides however.

david914 12-28-2004 03:52 PM

Boy, I've been lurking around the Off Topic forum lately and I am deeply dismayed at how much hatred there is here. Being a Christian, I am also quite surprised at the number of folks who are apparently very anti-Christian. I have spent almost my entire life in the South and, because of that I suppose, am used to living around those who are Christians in some form or another. Maybe I have been living in a vacuum for the 40 plus years of my life, but again, I am quite shocked at how many posters here are not Christian or Jewish, and seem vehemently opposed to the idea that God does exist, and that religion is not only a good thing, but a necessary part of life.

It saddens me to read threads like this, knowing how well we all get along on the technical forums. I really wonder if doing away with the Off Topic forum might be a good thing after all. There's too much "venom" here already :( .
