mcmath: i think basically we are pretty much parallel in your statements. the problem seems to be that when you mention any of this blasphemy, you can hear peoples minds slam shut.
after all, it is convieniently added in many of the faiths, that the only sin you cant be forgiven for is to deny {question} the word of god and to think it is just as bad as doing it so ive been told.
ok, here goes! i have always assumed that the old testament was for the most part a history book. i was even told this in college. you speak of moses and the parting of the sea. i was watching the history channel one night. the topic was, who built the pyramids. so thats a no brainer right? well they interviewed the top egyptologist (several). the biblical story of egypt and the hebrews and all that. the egyptologist stated that in the 150 years that scholars had studied the subject, not one mention of the hebrews in egypt was ever mentioned by the egyptians. they know what they ate, their sex lives and other intimate details of their lives, but not one word has ever been found to mention the hebrews. ok, so once again this is the politically correct "history channel". the egyptologist stated that the pyramids were built by egyptians in a "WPA" project. it was every mans duty to do something for the pharoah, aka god, to assure his entry into the after world! the egyptologist claim that the stories in the old testament were written by traveling story tellers who visited the area.
ok, im still investigating this! if this is the true word of the scientist, i need to know more! as this point, im not here to argue the point, merely to relate what i have seen. this is one of the many discoveries that could change the way some people will look at history. those of faith will never look at it differently.

But back to big question- why did your God send the ocean to smote 150,000 of his children? Was it because they were sinners? Was it because they bow down to graven idols? Was it because he is angry with them, or us all? Was it to remind us of his love for us?

Or was it just because....there is no-one home?

Werewulf, I must confess I'd never heard that before. All of my history background places the Hebrews in Egypt. Many scholars can even pick dates and pharaohs that are probable for the Exodus! I'd be curious to find out more. Do you remember any of the names of those Egyptologists? My cursory search of the history channel's website was inconclusive. Thanks,

It's not a real question that's why. It's an attempt to belittle the Christians on this board. To my knowledge God doesn't "smote" anyone any longer. This is an exorcise in ego stroking for you. It makes you feel superior to mock those with what you believe to be ignorant faith. I guess if it gives you jollies, run with it.

Man I use to think I had a lot to learn when it came to religion. I now realize I'm no where near the bottom in the knowledge pool. Thanks for that anyway.

God could do this, you know, OR- God could prevent it. He is God, after all....
