I think there is a large private Texas race course that was a 2 lane highway. I read about it over 5yrs ago. Maybe a 20mi loop?
does anyone know about this track?

The track I was asking about is a long 2 lane road that was purchased along with the property. It's not a regular sanctioned track. It's more of a wild ride where you need a spotter with glasses to spot turns. No safety barriers, etc.

I recall watching a program where they ran a race from Ft Stockton to Marathon along the public two lane highway. It was about a sixty mile race, street cars averaging 140+ over the route. Could that be what you refer to Ronin?

Interesting concept - don't see it happening anytime soon. It is taking 6+ years to widen an FM route, expected compleation in another 8 years and it is only about 14 miles! They tend to sneak up on things here when you start going through small towns with some poltical clout.
I was in South Beach in June - the 'Bull Run' ended there. Talking to the drivers and navs, it was 'Cannon Ball Run' all over again. Some hard core bucks - too bad it is getting to be all about the chink and less about the race.

I saw this thread and it triggered a talk between me and a bud about 2mo ago. He said he would do it. I said "sure". So if I can ever find this private track I'll have some wild reporting to do, for sure. I figured asking Texas guys was my best shot. I'll try a google "Texas track" and see what happens. thanks everyone.

getting back to the original topic, the article says
Supporters say the corridors are needed to handle the expected NAFTA-driven boom in the flow of goods to and from Mexico and to enable freight haulers to bypass heavily populated urban centers on straight-shot highways that cut across the countryside a chart of trade to Mexico. NAFTA kicked in about 1994. the trend would appear that trade has peaked and is now subsiding. Are these highways really necessary for NAFTA? Or is this a smokescreen to introduce more toll roads here in Texas? Really, all they need is a loop around Austin to accomplish the same thing on 35 :-)
