I need a place to live
What are some good ways (excet the newspaper) to find rental properties? I need an aprtment or cheaper house ASAP. Maybe a good website or something? The ones I have tried were useless.
Thanks, Ed

Have you tried driving around to the areas where you would like to live and taking down the numbers on "for rent" signs? Sometimes you may even meet landlords then and there. This always worked for me.

I second the drive around and look for signs. You need to see the neighborhood, etc. When I was a Landlord, the best advertising was a sign in the window.

Try something no one else trys, put a "Wanted to Rent" ad in the paper. Use local papers and any of the "Penny Saver" type free rags they sent to the house.
I've secured really nice garage space three times over the years this way. Great part is you have renters competing for you and not the other way around. In the ad use comforting descriptors such as Quiet, mature, non-smoker (if possible) etc... Good Luck
