Superman, you're next!!!

tabascobobcat 01-04-2005 04:53 PM

Len - I'm in.
Just smashed the h-e double tooth pick out of 6 packs in a carton.
Smashed the ash tray, lighter, etc.
Copied and printed out many of the different posts on this thread and will hang them in the car, around the desk, etc .... as a reminder. Many of the posts have been moving to me. Especially the family aspect. My wife is expecting our first in July. I don't want in anyway to hijack this thread, but hope that you guys kick my a$$ if I fire back up.

Lets do this once and for all. F the tobacco companies. More $$ for Sports Seats.

Anybody seen my pack of gum ??

lendaddy 01-04-2005 05:06 PM

Awesome! I was hoping someone would be inspired. It's not easy, but you can do it. I like the anger too, channel it and use it to your advantage. Don't give in, and use the visualization tricks in your weak moments. Very cool!

Oh yea, don't worry about Hijacking the thread, this is a group effort and everything written here applies to us both. Now we just need a third(or fourth if K911SC is still in which I think he is) sorry!

lendaddy 01-04-2005 05:16 PM

FWIW , one of the things that has really helped is what Moses said. "Don't allow yourself the option of failure". Really think about that, then just flat out make up your mind. That has really helped me anyway.

I am currently enjoying a glass of champagne for my two day run so far.:)

azasadny 01-04-2005 05:29 PM

lendaddy (and tabascobobcat),

Congrats!! Keep going... I'll be praying for both of you!

tabascobobcat 01-04-2005 05:32 PM

I may try this praying thing next if this works.
Seriously, thanks.

vash 01-04-2005 05:35 PM

My next step is weight loss, maybe two weeks from now. One at time.

I quit smoking a few years ago, but nontheless this thread has inspired me to make some choices of my own. Starting this morning I'm taking the stairs instead of the elevator... I work on the 17th floor. I figure if I do that 3 times a day, up and down, that'll give me at least 30 minutes of exercise. That ought to help me avoid the "first heart attack by 50" family tradition. Thanks for the inspiration lendaddy.

It took a complete cardiac arrest for my mom to quit. She had two separate bypass procedures and can't walk more than 10 feet at a time due to emphysema but she's still here, god bless her.

Here is the best and surest way to quit smoking:

The next time you have an urge to smoke, get a cigarette and instead of lighting up, eat it. And I mean the whole friggin' thing with the filter. Don't stop (you will puke afterwards anyway) until you cram the whole thing down your throat.

The desired reaction will then occur and you will become very sick. This sickness will cure your cravings quite possibly forever. You will never forget the pain that you inflicted on yourself and the gut-wrenching sickness that results.

The last and final step is each time you have a craving in the future (if you don't immediately get disgusted) think about the cigarette eating incident and remember the nausea and torment. The more that your mind programs itself with that incident, and triggers a gut wrenching response, the more you will be repulsed by cigarettes.

Works like a charm;)

Hey LenDaddy, Up to 12 hours and no chew - what should I expect for the next 12 Hours? Anyone else with me?

12 hours is big, it will get a "little worse" moving forward if it's anything like mine. You'll be fine though, just make up your mind!
For me it was a focus thing. My eyes would actually go blurry and mentaly there was a cloud in my head. I couldn't hunker down on something for any period of time. But oddly I had/have tons of energy! I sweat/shook/etc... on and off, and I hope I'm done with that today. Day THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 WooooHooo

Z-man 01-05-2005 05:25 AM

How's it going Lendaddy? Hope day four will be as successful for you as days 1-2-3!

That sounds so disgusting that I am sure it will work. I don't have the courage to try though. I'll try and convince my daughter to try it;)

Superman 01-05-2005 06:39 AM

WooHoo.

Len, some might argue otherwise but I think the physical addiction largely fixes itself in a couple of days. Sure, there are physiological changes going out weeks and months, but I think the blurriness, focus problem, etc., has probably moved behind you now for the most part, and I think that's a massive victory. For a long time, and perhaps forever, there will be a desire to light up. But it's a two-stage thing, and I think you've pinned the physical addiction thing to the mat.

Yes, my recollection of previous quitting experiences suggest that your perceptions change quite a bit. Your senses of taste and smell just about quadruple. Your alertness and mental acuity double or triple.

It's HUGE. I cannot overstress the significance of this victory of yours.

It does work.

If you can't eat the cigarette, imagine yourself eating one as you light up in your mind 10 times or more. Take your time and imagine how sick you would get.

The next time you go to light up, your mind should respond with the sickness of imagining eating it as you have programmed it for a new thought pattern.

Once your mind is conditioned to get a painful response, or sickening response to anything, it rejects the idea. Just think of the first time you put your hand on the stove, you got burned and never did it again.

it's true that mental imagery, both positive and negative as the case may be, is an extremely powerful tool in motivation. It can be used for all different kinds of challenges that we face in life.

It's funny: to a non-smoker, going through a day w/o a cig is as easy as breathing. To someone trying to break the addiction it can be like bench-pressing the Sears tower, just plain impossible.

Here's to hoping that you guys can become non-smokers, I have to really "flip a switch" in my brain when I quit, the good news is that the obsession has been lifted 100%. I rarely think about smoking, at least in any attractive way.

Great Job! 12 hours w/o chew is huge. The thing about chew is you can do it anywhere. All you need is a cup. Cigs are regulated as to where you can have one. The nicotine in chew is also much higher, and more addictive, than a cig.

I'm quit chew after 10+ years on September 10, 2004. I went to chew to quit cigs after about 10 years - big mistake.

It's really the first three to four days that are really bad physically. After that it's more mental. I won't lie, it is still difficult mentally each and every day.
