Midvale School for the Gifted

How many of you knew exactly what this referred to before clicking the link?

Another fave: "It appears that agent 6373 accomplished her mission."

I got the complete Far Side for X-mas (2 gorgeous, huge bound volumes) and I'd had a "Midvale" moment just the day before, after which I said under my breath "Midvale School for the Gifted".

I miss Gary Larson.

As I was clicking, in the back of my mind I was thinking "where can I find a jpg of that cartoon..."

If I had any silkscreening skills (or "ins") I'd have Midvale School for the Gifted T-shirts made up.

I was tempted to put it on my resume, just to see if anybody said anything.

JP, I've actually got a Midvale T-Shirt!

It's got a little 2nd frame at the bottom, maybe 2"x2" of the student, pounding on the door to be let in.

Adam -- that's great!
I was thinking of making it like a real school's T-shirt, with "Midvale" in large, collegiate-block style letters and "School for the Gifted" in slightly smaller lettering underneath. Make it look as cookie-cutter and ordinary as possible...

Is that what yours looks like, but w/ the comic strip beneath it?

JP - I'll get it out tonight and take a photo. It's an official Larson product, I believe. I've also got a beat-up old "Midvale" coffee mug somewhere here in the office. I'll try and find that now.

I have several Far Side books, might have to get the new one mentioned above.

One of my (scores of) X-girlfriends and I used to play a game where you'd have to guess the caption of a Far Side panel.

I knew what it referred to immediately. A long time ago (20 years ?) I made quite a splash at the school where I was teaching when I blew it up and pasted the name of the school in place of "Midvale" and put it up on the wall of my room. A lot of people agreed with it. One of my favorites.

Definitely one of my all-time favorites, I think about that comic all the time. We always had his books in the house growing up, my current favorite are "The Onion" compilations. A recent Onion headline, (w/ photo of A. Gonzales): "Ashcroft Loses Job to Mexican".....

JP,

I'm beggin' ya, please.

If you run across the 'toon with the cow's in the pasture lamenting the fences, please, please please...scan a copy and post it here. The captions says something I can't remember and then quotes the cow's saying "Damn the electric fences!"

I can't explain it, but on a trip to Australia several years ago, I saw a card with this cartoon on it and it literally brought me to my knees in the middle of the novelty store. I laughed so hard I had tears flowing down my face...and I am not exagerating.

I bought the card, but somehow, over the years it was misplaced. So, please, if you come across it, post it, or e-mail it to me....please!

THANKS!

Randy

Some of my favorites are the ones in Hell:

"Go back to sleep Chuck, you're just having a nightmare. Of course, we ARE still in H&ll!!" - That was my GE coffee mug for years.

Another Fav: 3 guys by a poorly construsted Rocket: "I guess we really aren't Rocket Scientists."

At the mad Scientists conventions: "An now our Keynote speaker Professor ______, who coined the now familiar phase 'Fools! I'll destroy them all!'".
