Blue: care to post a pic of something similar to what you're building, but in a more completed form?

Thanks,
-Z.

Glad you asked! This is the same frame/fork/wheels/bars combo I'll be using. Everything else will be different.

Moses, Blue - very nice works of art!

Blue: I hope that your handle bars going to be lower than in the pic you posted. IMHO, the higher handlebars disrupt the lines of that bike.

Not my type of bike (I used to ride a Seca 750 touring bike), but I can respect the hardware...

I have two custom harleys and a small shop (my other perversion) and I like the old skool look. It's timeless. I think the current custom trend of ultra high-tech 'chopper' sleds is quickly deminishing.

Hot-rods went through this about 15yrs ago where the cars got so high-tech that the $$$$$ involved and slick looking they all looked the same at the car shows.

I do like technology and style progressing but at times I think they end up looking like space-ships.

OP: My lovely wife made the curtains. You should see the valence!

Sorry Z, I'm sticking with the "mini-apes". I'll be going internal with all of the wiring/lines to keep things cleaner. Plus they'll be powdercoated black. And suicide clutch with a jockey shifter. None of this namby-pamby handclutch thing. Anyway the bars/seat/pegs relationship fit my ergos 100%, ain't gonna change it if it ain't broke.

Re: the seat, I've found a guy who's going to do one up for me in tan leather. Should look good against the tan exhaust wrap I'm going to use.

Don, I'll be building this during the month of March. Right now I'm just trying to get all the stuff together so I'm not running around looking for parts later. I'll have the whole month off so it should go together quick. Feel free to stop by and "supervise". The beer's on me.

Asphaltgambler: I totally agree with you. This bike will be my protest sign against my neighbor's POS "Texas Chopper".

I've always take pride in designing/building one off stuff. I like being'the guy' that made that part or came up with an original thought. I see the real enthusists as "sweat, $$$, blood, $$ and tears". Oddly enough I see more real P-car enthusists than custom Harley guys. It's almost sad because I've been around it for most all my life.

I have been to many shows, runs and see too many store bought 'choppers' where the guys total time and effort investment was laying down 35+ large for someone elses idea of cool.

TV shows have really brought custom Harleys into everyones home and fueled $$$ into the sport in a big way. But the downside I see is much less heart and soul now-a-days.

BlueSkyJaunte; when you're done and some dude on a $40K cookie-cutter pulls up, asks who made your bars or pipes reply that "I made them" watch for the puzzled look they'll give you.
