Whooohoo! Huygens has landed!

I don't know how many of you know the details and are interested, but a probe that was on it's way for 7 years (!!) has landed on the surface of Saturn's moon Titan.

I've been following this mission from early begining and everything happened in few hours.

Data has now being downlinked from Cassini-mothership to Earth (takes some time) and being processed (takes more time).

The good thing is that Huygens survived the plunge and worked for a long time even when it landed. It was a very very very long shot.

Pictures should appear 11.45 AM Pacific time

Info here:
http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/home/index.cfm

The lander was made by ESA but instruments were both European and American. Both ESA and NASA should be congratulated...

Amen!
And it's doubly good to hear they landed a probe safely, as opposed to pranging it off their intended target at a high rate of speed, which some have come to expect.

I can't help but think of the quote, "All these worlds are yours, except Europa. Attempt no landings there".

I thought the coverage was terrible. Reminds me of the lack of interest after Apollo 12. Too bad the public has such a short attention plan.
