Angry Oh how I love thy Nassau County Cop...

Do they have anything better do to other than harass me in my own driveway at 4:40AM coming home from work? Telling me the hours I work is inappropriate. But noooo he couldnt pull over the WRX that went blasting past us as he followed me onto my block with its huge loud exhaust. Yes please mr. cop, please harass the poor Porsche owner that did nothing wrong. I mean after all, I do pay your $80k+ salary so you can do such things like this.

Sorry but just a rant. Anyone else been hassled for BS like this? the cop said I had one of my license plate bulbs out, but he had to take a few seconds to come up with that, so he had an excuse to get past my door and check out my inspection.

Dude,

It is lawngeyelund, if your driving a 911 at 4 in the morning you must have a little peruvian marching powder in your pocket.

$80K Plus?? The fellow is a slacker... Obviously trying to earn some OT.

He was fishin'. Did he really tell you the hours you work are inappropriate? Ha, ha, what was he doing??

Nassau Co. has a few busy areas, the rest are Barney Fifes. I am sure you got no ticket..

He was on a fishing expedition and he had to come up with a reason for stopping you when you turned out to not be a drug dealer and the car wasn't stolen. The good news is if your car is ever stolen, he'll pull it over then also.
p.s. I've had my share of "chats" with the good men in blue while on the Hempstead Turnpike.

You think driving a Porsche is a cop magnet, try riding a Harley. Especially as a member of a group. It's not as bad now that most Harleys are owned and ridden by mid-life crisis affluent citizens. Ten to twenty years ago that was certainly not the case. I have lost track of the number of times I have been pulled over for lame crap like this. It's only happened once in the Porsche; I was picked out of a line of cars all traveling the same speed on the freeway. The cop actually had to let several cars between me and him in that line speed past me before he could get in behind to pull me over. I was the only one that spotted him (unmarked car) and slowed to move right. He was at a loss to explain why he allowed so many cars to proceed at a higher rate of speed than I was travelling just to get to me.

Ah youve had fun on hempstead turnpike LOL. Ive never been there (although Ive heard the stories from my mustang friends). I used to travel all the way out to DPA when I was in my ricer stage..what a waste of time that ever was. When did you used to do that? I see you live in TN now.

Harley guys dont get much trouble around here, specially if in a pack. The crotch-rocket ones get in all the trouble (too loud of an exhaust, having a ghetto-booty girl riding on the back of your bike with no underwear on, yes Ive seen it and its nasty...looks like roast beef ). They are also the ones that dont obey the law. Riding between lanes, cutting people off, recklessly speeding.

I never once saw a harley guy pulled over by a cop, unless the cop was asking him about the bike cuse he had one too

I think the time you were on the road was the biggest factor, then what you were driving.

Did not get stopped, but I had a state trooper follow me for about 20 miles. Close to Mexico, in a Porsche, I was profiled. He didn't follow when I entered the ranch. It was near 2 am. I'd say you were profiled as well, blue.

Amazingly Ive never gotten pulled over in my Porsche. no matter how fast ive driven. as a matter of fcat, the only speeding ticket Ive ever gotten was in a New York Telephone Co. van. for doing 54 in a 50 (no B.S.)! on the Brooklyn Queens expressway.
After he handed me the ticket, I asked the NYPD highway cop If he was pissed that he had a high phone bill or something.

Yeah, it's amazing how things have changed over the years. I used to get pulled over for any variety of made-up reasons. Harley riders were the most harassed motorists on the road. Fast forward to today. There was a big enforcement operation the other day at a local venue, the Alki Tavern, that hosts a "taco Thursday". This has been a local biker tradition since before I was riding. The area has built up over the years into a rather expensive waterfront (Puget Sound) condo haven. The new neighbors really do not like the motorcycle activity and have no appreciation for its history. They have enough financial clout to sway the city of Seattle to periodically harass the bikers, with the obvious intent of persuading us to go elswhere on Thursdays. There were dozens of cops there pulling bikers over for anything and everything. The vast majority being targeted were the younger crotch rocket crowd. The middle aged mid life crisis Harley riders were virtually unmolested. Many were hanging out in the parking lot with the cops, b.s.'ing about their bikes. The local 1%'ers were even imune from harassment. Amazing.

haha yup thats the way it goes. Getting profiled in the Porsche. Im surprised the cop even knew what kind of car it was (there is maybe only 1 other one in my town that im aware of).

Ive been takin different ways home from work now. Any way but straight through town. I know a few Lynbrook cops (thanks to a friend of mine) and they even commented that it was a nice car. Some of them are real cool and dont mind shooting the breeze, and some are just out there to break everyones balls.

Lynbrook cops are historically notorous for taging out of towners late at night.

otherwise it's either the "look" of the car or you're in a big accident kill zone like Hemp Tpke, Lawsen Blvd in Oceanside, or Lido Blvd in Lido.

I keep my "look" very low key. They don't even turn their head when I go by between 1am-daybreak, which I do routinely. Although they do pair up trying to tag me for doing something wrong. I'll pass one guy who'll radio another down the road. Generally I always figure that if one is around their buddy isn't far away, especially on the Pky's.

Nathan's in Oceanside has a weekly street racer meet where the PD is lined up just waiting. A few weeks ago some kid did a major burn out in front of them. They went nuts on a few guys at once.

Between Sunrise and LB on LB Rd they will taunt another target in an impounded hot rod after 1am. Reving the engine, doing burn outs, etc to get the unwary guy. They've been doing that since the '60s that I know of.

Remember when they were running that white Mustang on the LIE and 135 back in the mid 80's. Think they also had a marked Z28 w/out lights.

I have to say they have gotten much mellower over the years or maybe I "fit" the look of my car now.

I used to get pulled over all the time for nothing.

I always drove a nice car and since I have long hair they either thought that I had stolen it or that I had drugs.

Was sitting at a light one day waiting to make a left, cop comes through the intersection from the other direction and out of the corner of my eye I see him look at me, then the regi/inspection, (which were valid) and back at me. After he passes I glance in the rearview and sure enough he pulls a U turn and gets on the radio to run my plate.

Follows me for a few miles and gives up when he realizes he has no reason to pull me over.

Can't tell you how many times I was late for work because I was pulled over for not signaling a lane change, (bogus excuse, they know you can't prove that you did) and had to sit on the side of the road while they searched my car.

I know I didn't need to let them but I never had anything to hide and if you don't give them permission it just fuels their suspicions and you sit there all day while they get the dog to sniff around the outside.

Ask me how I know.

Scott

I used to go to Nathans back in the summer because I had my fair share of friends with some big hp mustangs (i used to bet on the races which was always a welcomed income of cash every week) but since he sold his car and got accepted to the police academy, thats all but gone. I dont know why it got worse all of a sudden (maybe the bellmore ricers had no place to go ) but the parking lot and side streets would get filled with tons of urethane and bondo queens . It kinda sucks cuse its scaring away all the old timers that bring their classics there (which are really nice) and its turning into another bellmore or a mini-DPA.

Ronin that wouldnt be your black 911 that sits over at the european repair shop down that road east of walgreens would it? I bought my 944 from the guy that works that place.

nope.. I wouldn't drive the 911 near either place.

"Remember when they were running that white Mustang on the LIE and 135 back in the mid 80's. Think they also had a marked Z28 w/out lights."
------- haven't seen a Z-28 in a couple of years. Around Jones Beach they have been using SUV's with an occasional radar on it.

After 1am, when you're running east to west on Ocean Pky from Captree to the Jones Beach pencil you'll drive thru an un-lit section during the week. Just after the lights come back on is a boating area on the north side. The HP will just hang in there and watch you coming without their radar on. They have their exit from the area figured so you're doing 90-110 into a sweeper watching the road and they're blasting up behind you.

meanwhile the best action drive is between the Wantagh Pky and Sagtikos at 9-11pm during the week with late NYC commuters+.
I do that often.

haha you got that right. Ive gotten the finger more than once trying to slip my way through traffic. Wantagh is really nice to drive on but no lights and you never know if a cop is waiting around the corner for you.

And whats wrong with that euro shop? I hope he isnt a scumbag lol.

Im starting to favor Bill over at Rudtners in Freeport. He helped me out in a jam quite a few times (had a starter in stock for me and even loaned me an upper rad hose off a customers car just to get my car back home! What other mechanic would do that?) and Im leaning towards him doing my timing belt and waterpump when it comes the time. Im just judging this by the fact that his shop is clean and well lit, has some very nice Porsches sitting out front (including a fair amount of 944s) and hes quite friendly compared to a few other mechanics Ive met.
