Rock fans I need your help
My son is trying to get into a battle of the bands contest in the nearest city from our town. It would be good exposure to an otherwise dull music scene where we live. The problem is somehow the voting to get into the top 5 is being manipulated. Such as a band that on this last day of voting got 500 votes in 1 hour. We live in a sparsely populated area of the state and there is no way this could happen without some computer BS. Anyway they have hit up all their friends relatives etc. They are out of options. I know there are some real music guys here. If you would be so kind as to check out the site, listen to them, or if you don't want to listen just vote for them. The voting ends in a couple of hours. His bands name is GenOh!
They write all their music and are way more original than the average teen band IMHO of course. And they are going to add a bassist as soon as this gig is over. I know this may sound lame but help he lives for this stuff. And hey, he came home from the hospital in a 930 that ought to count for something. http://www.getout.amarillo.com/battleofthebands/ |
Dude I'm a bass player can I audition for the band?
As long as they don't mind a middle age balding guy... ha ha... He has my vote... come on pelicanheads! Is it just me or is the pelican site F***ed up today? |
I listened to the music, and it sounds real good to me. Your son has my vote.

Needs more cowbell
|
Another old bass player here,...they have my vote.
|
Their ex drummer was a turd. Wouldn't show up for practices etc. I am remined of the old joke how do find a drummer? Order a pizza and nab the delivery dude. Anyway the old bassist is now the drummer and they have tried out a couple of bass players but they think since The White Stripes, and The Black Keys do without bass they can. My son's effects pedal is stereo so he runs one side clean with the amp bass turned all the way up. The other side goes through effects. It sounds alright. That video's sound was coming out of the camera mic. And the video is grainy because it was completely dark in that venue that night. I'm surprised it came out that well. And thanks for the votes. As one of the guys from Wayne's world said. Rock on Dudes.

Vote in. If we clear our cookies do you think we can vote multiple times?
|
Sounds good to me; kind of a modern sounding Stooges/Bauhaus blend. Tell him not to get too worked up about a battle of the bands gig; the stuff he's doing (especially at his age) is far more sophisticated and varied than the average music fan will be looking for. (That's a complement, BTW :) )
He's got a future in it if he keeps developing. And I agree, a bass player would help fill things out a bit. Good luck, Jim |
Somehow someone has figured out something I haven't you shouldn't be able to get 500 votes in 1 hr like one band did today unless they were manipulating they system somehow. Anyway thanks for the help

All I do is buy equipment and listen to them. I quit giving advice a couple of years ago. I did have to buy a db meter to prove to them they were going to damage their hearing like I did at their age. I know this is a car forum but I'll ask a guitar question for you. Do you know what G.A.S is?
|
got my vote
|
Chalk up one more vote.
500 votes? How'd they do that? In Internet Explorer, go to Tools | Internet Options and Delete Cookies. Close IE, Open IE and vote again. Repeat as necessary. |
They posted a note a couple of days ago that said there will be no repeat ip addresses. jrdavid68 if I try your suggestion will it still be the same ip address?

That's it. It is evil. There are never enough guitars, amps, pedals, it's like a drug. Almost as bas as Porsche obsession. You hope the wife doesn't notice when there is another guitar lurking in the shadows.
|
Got another one...
|
She noticed. I have been doing a fair bit of re-stringing/setup work for a friend who owns even more guitars than me in an attempt to sort of mask which one belongs to who.
She only just figured out that the SG belongs to me..... |

Yeah, I've only got 4. A sweet old Yamaha FG580 I picked up from an old guy (yes, older than me) and got back into shape, a Framus 12 string I got new in 72, a Strat copy which doesn't get used much and an old piece I try to teach myself slide on,(open D) Most of what I do is as old as the guitars or older. Seems those are the only tunes they know. ;)
Gen Oh was leading by .1% after I placed my vote. Their total was 15.3%. Rock me dude! Les |

Although, suddenly GenOh is in first place!!! Funny how that works. They still could analyze the results later and throw out duplicate votes from the same IP, but then the others would probably lose votes too. |
At 1pm central time today they were in 7th. This is worse than watching my son play quarterback. Anyway thanks to everyone who voted. The winner gets to have the John Lennon portable recording studio come to their school, park there all day, make a pro recording and video and give away cool stuff.

Local bands battle for crowd's attention GenOh! wins deal to professionally record 1,000 CD singles By Jennifer Heath Globe-News Correspondent On Stage: Translucent from Panhandle performs to a crowd of more than 250 during the Battle of the Bands on Saturday at WT. ] They didn't care about the prizes. It didn't matter to Ryan Hansen, 16, and Kyle Irvin, 15, that they'll be getting 1,000 copies of their CD professionally recorded. It didn't faze them they would create a music video for one of their songs. All that mattered to the two members of GenOh! was they would be getting some respect. "People don't always like us," said drummer Irvin from Pampa High School. "If we win we'll get some respect from the public." Now that they have won the first Amarillo-Globe News Battle of the Bands on Saturday, they can count on getting noticed. The event was part of the Globe-News "Celebrate Youth" program developed with USA Weekend Magazine and co-sponsored by the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus. The event brought about 250 people to the West Texas A&M University Jack B. Kelley Student Center, said Steven Metzinger, Globe-News online director. The first call for local high school bands collected nine groups. About 10,000 votes were cast online to select the final five, Metzinger said. In addition to GenOh!, Blissful Intentions, Frozen Illusion, Translucent and Georgie Boy competed Saturday. And for some, the nerves took over center stage. "To be honest with you, I can't feel my legs right now," Wes Crump, lead singer of Translucent, said before he began the first number. While the teens sang, families and friends sat back and encouraged. "The worst part is when they get disappointed for not having a big crowd," said Linda Brohlin, mother of the guitarist for Frozen Illusion. "But this is what they all want to do as their life's work." Bethany Cook and Ashley Bowers made T-shirts to support their boyfriends' band, Georgie Boy. "We never complain if they're doing band stuff," Bowers said. "We know they'll do good." Frozen Illusion played "Beautiful" and "Escape Reality" to their fans. Toby Brohlin crowd surfed while playing part of the second song to get the fans involved. He also tossed out copies of their CD. "We've played a lot of places," Frozen Illusion drummer Jordan Stephens said. "We try to practice together about every other weekend." Band members played two songs, the first being critiqued and graded by four judges. Judges looked for talent, stage presence, originality and quality of original material. One of the two songs performed had to be an original. "I think we played pretty good," said Zach Jenkins, bassist for Blissful Intentions. One song Jenkins and his band played was "Memories," a mix of "scremo/emo" music composed for a lost grandmother. The two teens from GenOh! created both of the songs they sang, "Red to Black" and "Saturn Turns Around," combinations between indie and disco rock. They've been playing together for more than two years. And although the two didn't look like typical teen rockers - wearing matching long-sleeve white T-shirts and ties and crooning into an old-fashioned microphone - they still acted their age. "We're gonna go hang out at McDonald's to celebrate," Irvin said. "And then call everyone we know and tell them we won." And they want to thank the Pelican dudes for voting for them. At one time on the last day of voting they were in 6th and only top five got in. They pretty much thought they could win it if they got in. They'll also get in rotation on one of the local radio stations. So this could be the break they've been hoping for. |
i want a t-shirt when they make their mark :D
